I'm going to kill you for your beliefs on the subject of Human Genetic Engineering for the purposes of Medical Science
That kind of thing?

It happens.
I've got colleagues for whom death threats are reasonably frequent.

Ironically, they're always from pro-lifers.

I think I'm a bit junior for death threats at the moment; I'll regard my first one as a kind of professional validation.

Stop giving me serious answers
I really will you know, you liberal gene fascist

yeah, no one gives enough of a crap about that shit.
You actually have to be testing on animals or carrying out abortions. Intellectually musing on whether or not people have a right to die isn't quite as provocative as you like to think.

I spent an afternoon last week
in a room full of robots and genetically engineered monkeys.

How cool is that?

Exactly.
It was fantastic.

I had to wear protective clothing an' everything!

what were they engineered to do/be?

I can't remember what that project was.
But I sit on an animal research ethics committee; a lot of the proposals we consider involve GM animals, and every now and again we go to familiarise ourselves with the facilities in which they're held.

That goes without saying.
They squeak with delight.

That's not bad for a non-scientist like yourself.

I tried not to giggle like a schoolgirl...
Mostly, I succeeded.

Sadly, I missed out on the emus.
They'd been shipped out the previous week.
