I walked five miles last night
mostly in the dark. The ground is incredibly wet - almost as saturated as it was last time it flooded around here. I love my everything-proof boots!

I don't like hiking in the rain.
Wind and cold I can cope with, but not the rain.
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 9:28, Reply)
It wasn't raining.
I do have a good waterproof jacket, £4 from Scope, other charity shops are available. It kept me perfectly dry in one of the worst showers I've even been caught in and walking through the rain was great fun. Puddle jumping FTW!

You're a puddle jumper too?
Two years ago I jumped in a huge puddle forgetting my mum was next to me and she got soaked.

She wasn't happy.

"Puddle jumper", a great euphemism for a man who is "good with colours"
or "fond of quiche"

Not you personally, of course.
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 10:37, Reply)
There's a place near me called "Uphill", it has a large garden centre
yup, I live near the Uphill Garden Centre, for all your uphill gardening needs.

Seriously? That's hilarious
Handy for those who are 'light on their feet', 'confirmed bachelors' etc

what are your boots
I don't have any waterproof ones, and I could do with them
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 9:34, Reply)
Meindl Borneo Pro MFS
My dad's had a pair for four years, put a couple of thousand miles on them and they're still good as new. They took about fourty miles wearing-in and I'm not sure I'll ever buy anything other than these again. Great boots.
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 9:40, Reply)
hmmm
little outside my price range considering they won't get all that much use.

What I really need are some very comfortable wellies given the amount of walking in and near rivers I have to do
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 9:41, Reply)
I refuse to believe there are such things as comfortable wellies.
Then again, mine are steel-toecap, which freeze your toes.
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 9:43, Reply)
trouble is
I need steel-toecaps as well for site business.
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 9:46, Reply)
Yeah, mine are from my archaeology days.
I used to go on site with 2 pairs of thermal socks and newspaper stuffed down the boot. Still froze. I have shit circulation. I was sitting by the stove last night and my fingernails turned navy.

Yeah, I live in search of the perfect pair -
boots I can wear with jeans, skirts, dresses and can also wear for tramping around the muddy riverbanks of South Glos.

I'm getting these: www.justinbootstore.com/order/justin/jbl3000.htm

Edit: these look awesome but they're too pricey and they ain't black: www.ariat.com/products_detail.aspx?pcid=12&cid=28&scid=99&pid=572
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 9:42, Reply)
They'd look great on Vipros.

(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 9:46, Reply)

There are manly versions (that look identical).

Do they have bacon and hammers?

(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 9:48, Reply)
Yes, and they drink pints.

They're cool
but they'd be a bitch to clean.
(, Wed 18 Nov 2009, 10:01, Reply)

so I don't wear them in the mud
