For the past few months I've been wrestling with the idea of getting a new haircut/hair style but I cannot for the life of me work out what I want and when I ask my mates all I get back are stupid answers or 'why don't you just keep it the way it is' comments.
Anyway, I'm almost at the stage of asking people on the street what I should do but I reckon that'll just end up with me being sectioned, so I figured I'd ask here instead.
Oh, a couple of ground-rules:
1 - I'm a guy, so men's hairstyles only please.
2 - Something low maintenance would be preferable - I don't do mornings all that well, so if I can avoid having to spend ages styling/gelling/doing whatever, that would be nice.
3 - No stupid suggestions please - no ridiculous colours, no shaving swear words into the side of my hair or anything like that.
Otherwise, thanks for any suggestions/ideas.

Slightly essential. If it's curly (tight curls or afro like) don't go for a fringe, but sometimes even if the hair is slightly curly fringes look nice. I love a full frontal one, but side is good.
Oh, I miss [insert name here]'s full frontal fringe.
Yes, he was 17 when he had it.
Also, age. You can't have a young haircut when you're 50. It's WEIRD. Or a fringe.

It's probably easier to show you than try and describe it.
This photo is about a year old but the haircut is pretty much the same (maybe slightly shorter at the moment):

I'd say my hair is fairly straight but curls a little at the end.
And I'm 24, just.

Very low maintenance - get up, throw head back, hair is done.

But no thanks.
If it were that long, the only way I could imagine it being low maintenance would be if it were kinda skanky and that's not the look I'm going for.

*rubs thighs in suggestive manner*
Erm, not at you but at the thought of skinheads in general.
Oh and cut it all off for charity and then all the girls will think your a sweet guy, (even if you're a sweet guy anyway).
You could give your hair to the charity that makes wigs for kids with no hair or whatever thus scoring double points in the nice guy stakes.

Once your hair is short you'll be able to grow it into whatever style you like. Shave it for charity wigs and spend the next month while it's growing researching hairstyles in magazines and on the internet.

I wish I'd thought of doing it for charity when I shaved all mine off... then the girls would've thought I'm a nice guy too. Missed opportunity there.
And I can't imagine that I'll be doing that again any time soon!

You get a change and do a good deed.
I think I'm going to grow mine and keep it dark. I want to look like Katy Perry god damn it (will never happen)

Do I not warrant suggestive thigh-rubbing?
*runs off and cries*
As tempting as that option is (and believe me, both the shaving off and charity elements of that plan have occurred to me previously), I'm just worried that if I hated it, it'd take forever to get back to 'safe ground' (ie something I'm happy with, such as the way it is now).
Plus I'm going to have plenty of time to be bald later in life - can you not already see the signs of a receding hairline?

You're a good looking lad, just a bit too young for me to rub my thighs over.

Just a thought!

and you'll be surprised how quickly it grows back. It's hard to notice when it's long.
(, Sun 13 Dec 2009, 20:19, Reply)
It's still going to take a while to get back from 'buzzed' to shoulder length though.
And there's always that phase when it's too long to be short and too short to be long and it basically looks twunt-ish, which I'd rather avoid as well.

If I were you, I'd maybe ask some of your friends who they could recommend, then go in for a consult with the hairdresser and he/she can give you a good idea of what might look good on you.
Also, there's some websites you can go to that allow you to upload a picture of yourself that you can then "try" different styles.
(and even if you dont' get your head fully shaved, you can still give what's cut off to Locks Of Love - I just had my hair cut from long to really short and did the same thing).

Only problem is they don't seem to be active in the same continent as myself.

Hopefully that is the location where the haircut will take place and ask for a short back and sides.
What ever you do don't ask Darren to do it in the garage like he did to Bumneck. Bumneck wasn't called Bumneck before Darren cut his hair.
Every hairdresser does it differently. So, if you dont like it go to different one in 8 weeks time.
If you get some 3D cinema glasses, pop the lenses out it might make you look like Clark Kent. Ohhh sexy.
