Artists or bands you once loathed but are now quite fond of?
MGMT and Duffy.

I used to hate The Smiths.
Now I can tolerate them. Probably because of years of being subjected to them in the car by the ex.

How Soon Is Now, I always liked, though.

Blur
Used to do my head in, love them now.
Same goes for Arcade Fire and, *shifty eyes*, Placebo.

I LOVE Placebo.
Pure Morning and Taste in Men are awesome tracks.

They're ace
They really are. Can't stop listening to Hang onto Your IQ and I Know at the moment.

They've an endless list of decent tunes, it just took me a while to realise and then admit it to other people.

Curious coincidence.
The first band I went to see at what was Newcastle polytechnic (now Northumbria university) was the Pixies. They played Where is my Mind as an encore. The last band I saw there was Placebo. They played Where is my Mind as an encore.

Another coincidence
I'm currently at Northumbria University. Well, I'm back in SE London for Christmas.

Ever since the Academy opened in Newcastle both uni's have shite gigs going on, the best on offer last term was Jamie T. Not quite the same level as The Pixies or Placebo.

they are playing at a festival I'm going to in the summer
really rather looking forward to seeing them which has surprised me.

Pixies or Placebo?

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 21:10, Reply)
Pixies.
obviously.

Placebo have a few tracks played on the satellite radio but I can never get the names

*Pssst*
It's a well hidden secret, but Monty Boyce fucking loves Bowie after years of deriding him as an odd-eyed bandwagon-hopper.

ABBA
As a metalhead teenager I hated them beyond reason.

These days, I sometimes tap a foot nostalgically to Super Trouper or I Believe In Angels and I appreciate the ironic tribute bands, but I still can't stand to look at Agnetha, Benny and co.

New Order
is another one. And Amy Winehouse, Back to Black really is a fantastic album.
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 21:09, Reply)
Can't really listen to Amy
Ever since every time I've seen her 'singing' live she's been utterly abysmal.
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 21:11, Reply)
right on there barry...
it really is an excellent album.
i've never heard "frank", i'm told it's very good.
i'm currently downloading a whole bunch of metalica.
last year? fuck off!
oh how it changes.
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 21:16, Reply)
Oh Amy, I adore Back to Black

(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 21:21, Reply)

Duran Duran
Not cool to like as a boy but now they're on my Walkman!
(, Wed 6 Jan 2010, 23:48, Reply)
I used to really dislike Kings of Leon when I was a younger
Now I love them!

Terrible, Terrible Admission
But I heard Life in a Northern Town by Dream Academy from the 1980s in the gym the other night and I found myself thinking ... "Wow, the 1980s had some great music".

That having been said, I also like Green Day, Manics, Razorlight, Kings of Leon etc (am attempting (unsuccessfully) to be down with the kids, naturally).
(, Thu 7 Jan 2010, 3:35, Reply)
can you open a thread for the opposite also please?
I would like to open with U2. Their early stuff was great culminating in the wonderful 'The Joshua Tree' but anything post Achtung Baby was mostly pants.

and Bono is a knob end. Nothing worse than a millionaire preaching to ordinary people about helping the poor (whilst telling us not to download movies cos Hollywood is losing profits.)
