Afternoon
Got back up to my flat this morning, after no-one being here for about 3 weeks. Luckily, it was surprisingly warm. Unfortunately, it's not started to get a bit colder, so we've had to turn on the heating for the first time. And I'm making a hot water bottle.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:40, 1 reply, 16 years ago)
Hiya!
Do you have a hairdrier?
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:42, Reply)
Don't be stupid
Of course not. Despite the long hair. I do now have warm feet though, and all the curtain and things closed for the night to keep in what little heat I have.

Presume you didn't bother venturing outside today?
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:44, Reply)
No I did not go anywhere.
I did enough by going to Tesco yesterday!
If you had a hairdryer you could have taken it to bed and got well toasty, then used the hot water bottle as a mere assistant.

Cut your hair, you hippy.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:49, Reply)
I got it cut the other day
For the first time in 7 months. It's shorter than it's been for a while now.

I've gone for the tactic of hot water bottle in a blanket, with my feet in the blanket too. Toasty feet!
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:51, Reply)
Oh, good idea
Don't be afraid to wear a coat indoors, until the place warms up.
I'm trying to train the cat to sleep on my feet but he rarely tolerates me like that.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:52, Reply)
Haha
I'd like to see you managing that. I might put my baselayer top on. The advantages of owning outdoor equipment :D
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:53, Reply)
I had to get my dad a midlayer top for Chrimbo
He even has a special bag to put his map in. He only goes to the fucking Wirral!
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:54, Reply)
Everyone needs somewhere to keep their map
1) I don't know where the Wirral is.

2) I prefer to go walking in the middle of nowhere. Prettier scenery.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:57, Reply)
I'd like to go to the Peak District
because I've never been.
I like Wales and the Lakes, but never been to Scotland either. Maybe I should finish England fisrt. Haha FINISH IT!!! (Sorry I'm going loopy I think)

The Wirral is the peninsula over the river from Liverpool. Nice for walking but hardly the wilds of Siberia.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:59, Reply)
You should try going exploring in Scotland
Far prettier in England. Although the best bits are up north of here, probably about 3 hours drive from the English border.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:02, Reply)
But I might have a nosebleed!
Kidding.
I did suggest it to my dad a while back. Then I realised that I hadn't even seen all of bloody England. I need his deadly map skillz and awesomez map bag.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:05, Reply)
I'm heading to the Outer Hebrides for two weeks in April/May
can't wait
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:06, Reply)
Will you be watching the OHBC on telly!!

(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:07, Reply)
possibly

(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:08, Reply)
Awesome
I'm thinking of going up there during the summer before I hopefully start a job. Friend knows of a place where you can go sea-kayaking from, which sounds awesome. You taking surf stuff?
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:08, Reply)
I was planning to, but it's a very long drive,
and having boards and roofrack on the car reduces the fuel economy by about 10mpg, and I get nervous driving motorway speeds with them on the roof

so probably not
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:10, Reply)
You could probably just hire some when you're there
And I'm with you on the fuel economy thing. I take far too much notice of it these days.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:13, Reply)
when you are driving for 12 hours it makes a big difference
there's a hire place in stornaway, but they only have shitty boards.

shall see nearer the time though.

the other thing is that we may well be stopping off a few places on the way back, so don't really want to leave the boards on the car.

My main one is 9'4", so not easy to secure!
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:16, Reply)
Well that would be an issue, yes
Don't imagine you'd really want it being nicked.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:18, Reply)
no, it really wasn't cheap
my other board was cheap and is only 7' but is hard to get even that in the car, especially when you have packed it for 2 weeks of stuff!
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:19, Reply)
don't forget
fingerless gloves, warm hands but still able to type
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:59, Reply)
You know what you're doing laydeh!

(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:00, Reply)
Don't own such things
But I might just put my base layer gloves on.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:01, Reply)
they are the best
I have three pairs, mainly from teaching people to use cameras in the cold. If you have full gloves you have to take them off to press buttons at which point I lose them.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:04, Reply)
You can buy gloves that work with buttons now!
I saw them in the outdoor gear catalogue when I was getting dad's Christmas present. They even work with i-pod dials.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:10, Reply)
but how?

(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:15, Reply)
I think they have wierd little pads on them

(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:16, Reply)
Semi-conductor material in the fingertips
They've been around for a while now.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:17, Reply)
so they work for
touch screens and things?

not so good for fiddly camera buttons. I think I'll just have to have chilly finger tips
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:18, Reply)
Well normal gloves work for some touch screens
But ipod touch screens, and some others, only work when skin is in contact, due to something to do with the electrical signals that are transferred by the skin, but not through insulating material such as gloves.

*pushes fake glasses up nose*
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:22, Reply)
Did you push your glasses up your nose when you said that?
Blessed are the geeks...
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:19, Reply)
Your mocking makes me sad
Although mostly because I don't have glasses. I think it'd add to the whole geeky thing.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:21, Reply)
I didn't think
2 eyes people used the internet!

such is the crazy 21st century world
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:21, Reply)
I was hailing the geekery actually
I've been getting shocking headaches. Fingers crossed I need some glasses!!
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:22, Reply)
Maybe you're just dying
But probably not. Maybe.

I thought I needed glasses because of sore heads, but it was just because I was spending about 17 hours a day in front of a screen.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:23, Reply)
Oh shit
I bet it's the same with me :(
I either wanted a brain heamorrhage or glasses.
SOdding screenery is for wusses.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:27, Reply)
