I can't go anywhere
I live up a hill. It's too icy.
I got a taxi to and from Tesco yesterday.
I normally love staying in but this is starting to annoy me.
Entertain me!

Afternoon
I went to the pub last night, it cheered me up mightily. Although because my body clock was buggered from NYE I came back about half ten absolutely knackered, who wants to go to a club in Beckenham anyway. I went for a five mile walk with the dog that made me feel fantastic at about eight this morning as well.

I've only had three showers today, because there's a plumber here putting a radiator in. I think it's a sign.

But yeah, entertainment, Notting Hill at half nine. I can't wait. Just me, a bottle of white and Hugh Grant. *melts*
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:04, Reply)
I need a shower.
Ooh, or a nice long bath!

EDIT: Source. I can't think 'mint' without thinking 'sauce'. Greedy cow.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:30, Reply)
Well twice a day normally
Not sure if I mentioned it on here but I've been thoroughly down in the dumps the past week, didn't leave the house for eight days for various reasons and got so bored I had showers to pass the time. I had nine on Thursday. Nine. I think the plumber is a message from God telling me to stop being such a twat.

Roota, she's a miniature Schnauzer, Molly be her name. Was quite funny/embarrassing through the woods, she's a right scruffy bugger (wouldn't change her for the world though) and I bumped into what must be a local Schnauzer dog walking group. All perfectly trimmed with beards et all, and then I bowled past with the dog equivalent of a homeless person. They looked at me as if was walking a dead baby on a lead. In other dog related news we're getting a cocker spaniel soon. We're going to call him Jonathan.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:15, Reply)
I love proper bloke names for pets!
Did Molly disappear in the snow?

How many layers of dermis have worn off?
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:18, Reply)
It was between Jonathan, Frank or Raymond.
She did her best, she also accumulated a long, snowy beard round her mouth that stuck for about an hour. I'd have taken a photo but I have no bloody phone. Was ace.

And if I look closely I think I can see the bones in my hands.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:23, Reply)
Ace
That'll be entertaining later. Watch your veins instead of having another shower.
I have a disco light shower head for later. It's not mine. It's a present for my cousin's little girl, but I had to make sure it works. Ahem.

I wanted a gerbil called Donny Osmond and a cat called like Adam or something, but my cat was already called Tigger.
My aunty's dog was Floyd. I love that.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:27, Reply)
I have a hamster called Jack

(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:45, Reply)
Awww, what kind?
My hamsters have been Basil (female), Holly (female), and Harvey (male).
Holly was some kind of giant, like a small guinea pig.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:51, Reply)
mine are winter whites
I had three - Jack Frost, Smorgasbord and Monkey. Monkey was awesome, but he died a couple of weeks ago :(

I've also had ones called Mozzarella, Freya, Neutrino and Quark (the last two were Robrovskis which are tiny tiny)
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:58, Reply)
Mine were all Syrian
My made usually gets the dwarf ones. But they don't last as long as Syrians :(
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:02, Reply)
Tell you what I'd love
A miniature pig. I think they're hilarious.

I'd name him Robert. Not Rob. Robert.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:06, Reply)
I'd really love it if you named him Robert Goulet
and ALWAYS called him Robert Goulet.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:11, Reply)
*googles*
awww! they are so cute

although is this one of those things where they breed cute animals which are plagued with genetic problems?
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:11, Reply)
it's always sad that rodents don't live long enough
but my tip is don't buy animals from Pets At Home. Previous hamsters from there died of genetic things, Jack, Smorg and Monkey came from a proper breeder and are far more healthy.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:06, Reply)
How much is a hammy nowadays?
When Harvey died the cat was more sad than I thought he'd be, but my nerves improved...
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:12, Reply)
the place I went to
charged me about £20 for three hamsters and a hamster ball. I think stupid pets at home charge about £6 for hamsters, so it's worth finding a good pet shop/breeder who is careful about genetic things.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:14, Reply)
Yeah what you paid is hardly expensive is it?
I'll bear that in mind if the urge to own a hamster returns...
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:15, Reply)
you must be
very shiny clean
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:08, Reply)
It's snowing.
I have no food.
I really need to go and get some.
I overslept and thus have missed a day at the library where I could have got some good work done.
In order to make this day worthy I must go to Lidl.
It's snowing.
It's a 15 min walk.
Fuuuu :(

But I'm still bored.
And the lads are in the pub :(
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:08, Reply)
Thus far I am wearing:
Thick tights
Leggings
Jumpsuit (you know things are bad when this is the only trouser-related garment you own...)
Dress underneath jumpsuit (no longsleeved tops)
Wooly jumper
Scarf

To put on:
Big coat
Gloves
Wooly hats
DMs

I'm fucking HUNGRY.

LAYERS!

(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:15, Reply)
I ventured into town today
just got back. Successfully bought two books that I actually remembered that I needed.

and some guitar strings and a hot dog.

Mrs V got a nice one strap red dress from Coast for £35. exciting stuff.

I've made an executive decision that it is too cold and icy to go out. I almost stacked it several times walking home sober, so I doubt I'd managed when drunk or stoned.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:08, Reply)
COAST?? £35???
Excellente!

Oh and well done on the strings and books and hotdogs yo.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:09, Reply)
yeah it was quite amazing
she tried on a load of dresses and it would seem that coast stuff is cut specifically for her as they fit so well.

got to restring the guitar now. It's a nylon string one, which I've never done before. Involves slightly more skill than all my other ones
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:12, Reply)
My nana bought me a Coast gown for a ball years ago
and I realised why some people always buy expensive clothes. What a joy to wear! We've turned into Trinny & Susannah here Vip...

Ooh I leave the guitar stringing to other people.
Nylon sound lovely, but harder to play, as I recall.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:15, Reply)
I know just as much about matters sartorial as those sour-faced hags
I break so many strings I have to be able to string them myself.

Not harder to play, just different. This guitar isn't mine unfortunately. I'm waiting for my mum to bequeath her classical guitar to me. It's a glorious instrument.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:17, Reply)
I want my dad's guitar
Everyone comments on what a dream it is to play. I learnt on that guitar.
My uncle has commandeered it, but it is NOT his and I will have it!!
(I stuck a pencil through it when I was about 7- the only time my dad ever smacked me - so it bears my mark.)
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:21, Reply)
i had a 12 string on long term loan
from my dad in law. One of the few downsides to divorce is I don't get to play it now
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:23, Reply)
Ooh, bad.

(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:24, Reply)
i don't play well anyway
so I suppose to people with ears it's no loss. I might get a cheap acoustic sometime soon to practise on
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:26, Reply)
cheap acoustics can be quite good these days
lot better than when I started out.

12 strings are nice. bastard to restring though. took me an hour and a half the first time I did it...
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:27, Reply)
I'm proper shit
but it's enough to be able to make a bit of accompaniment if I'm having a warble.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:28, Reply)
I love guitars
I need more. I was in my favourite shop earlier, and there was literally nothing there that I wanted though. It's unsettling.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:26, Reply)
I'd love a big Gretsch
but it would be rude of a crap player like me to even touch it.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:29, Reply)
I'm not a fan of that type
my mate has an Epiphone electro-acoustic job and I don't get on with it at all. goes out of tune all the time when I play it
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:33, Reply)
I love jangly ones
Like Richard Hawley's
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:34, Reply)
that's exactly the sort I mean
listened to that Paul Simon song btw. It is a great one, just didn't know the name!
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:37, Reply)
Did it make you dance a bit?

(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:42, Reply)
can't remember
I'll try it again

edit: yep, instantly
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:43, Reply)
I've been doing the twist to that since I was a kid
Still makes my folks laugh
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:47, Reply)
Afternoon
Got back up to my flat this morning, after no-one being here for about 3 weeks. Luckily, it was surprisingly warm. Unfortunately, it's not started to get a bit colder, so we've had to turn on the heating for the first time. And I'm making a hot water bottle.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:40, Reply)
Hiya!
Do you have a hairdrier?
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:42, Reply)
Don't be stupid
Of course not. Despite the long hair. I do now have warm feet though, and all the curtain and things closed for the night to keep in what little heat I have.

Presume you didn't bother venturing outside today?
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:44, Reply)
No I did not go anywhere.
I did enough by going to Tesco yesterday!
If you had a hairdryer you could have taken it to bed and got well toasty, then used the hot water bottle as a mere assistant.

Cut your hair, you hippy.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:49, Reply)
I got it cut the other day
For the first time in 7 months. It's shorter than it's been for a while now.

I've gone for the tactic of hot water bottle in a blanket, with my feet in the blanket too. Toasty feet!
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:51, Reply)
Oh, good idea
Don't be afraid to wear a coat indoors, until the place warms up.
I'm trying to train the cat to sleep on my feet but he rarely tolerates me like that.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:52, Reply)
Haha
I'd like to see you managing that. I might put my baselayer top on. The advantages of owning outdoor equipment :D
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:53, Reply)
I had to get my dad a midlayer top for Chrimbo
He even has a special bag to put his map in. He only goes to the fucking Wirral!
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:54, Reply)
Everyone needs somewhere to keep their map
1) I don't know where the Wirral is.

2) I prefer to go walking in the middle of nowhere. Prettier scenery.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:57, Reply)
I'd like to go to the Peak District
because I've never been.
I like Wales and the Lakes, but never been to Scotland either. Maybe I should finish England fisrt. Haha FINISH IT!!! (Sorry I'm going loopy I think)

The Wirral is the peninsula over the river from Liverpool. Nice for walking but hardly the wilds of Siberia.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:59, Reply)
You should try going exploring in Scotland
Far prettier in England. Although the best bits are up north of here, probably about 3 hours drive from the English border.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:02, Reply)
But I might have a nosebleed!
Kidding.
I did suggest it to my dad a while back. Then I realised that I hadn't even seen all of bloody England. I need his deadly map skillz and awesomez map bag.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:05, Reply)
I'm heading to the Outer Hebrides for two weeks in April/May
can't wait
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:06, Reply)
Will you be watching the OHBC on telly!!

(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:07, Reply)
possibly

(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:08, Reply)
Awesome
I'm thinking of going up there during the summer before I hopefully start a job. Friend knows of a place where you can go sea-kayaking from, which sounds awesome. You taking surf stuff?
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:08, Reply)
I was planning to, but it's a very long drive,
and having boards and roofrack on the car reduces the fuel economy by about 10mpg, and I get nervous driving motorway speeds with them on the roof

so probably not
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:10, Reply)
You could probably just hire some when you're there
And I'm with you on the fuel economy thing. I take far too much notice of it these days.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:13, Reply)
when you are driving for 12 hours it makes a big difference
there's a hire place in stornaway, but they only have shitty boards.

shall see nearer the time though.

the other thing is that we may well be stopping off a few places on the way back, so don't really want to leave the boards on the car.

My main one is 9'4", so not easy to secure!
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:16, Reply)
Well that would be an issue, yes
Don't imagine you'd really want it being nicked.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:18, Reply)
no, it really wasn't cheap
my other board was cheap and is only 7' but is hard to get even that in the car, especially when you have packed it for 2 weeks of stuff!
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:19, Reply)
don't forget
fingerless gloves, warm hands but still able to type
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 16:59, Reply)
You know what you're doing laydeh!

(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:00, Reply)
Don't own such things
But I might just put my base layer gloves on.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:01, Reply)
they are the best
I have three pairs, mainly from teaching people to use cameras in the cold. If you have full gloves you have to take them off to press buttons at which point I lose them.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:04, Reply)
You can buy gloves that work with buttons now!
I saw them in the outdoor gear catalogue when I was getting dad's Christmas present. They even work with i-pod dials.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:10, Reply)
but how?

(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:15, Reply)
I think they have wierd little pads on them

(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:16, Reply)
Semi-conductor material in the fingertips
They've been around for a while now.
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:17, Reply)
so they work for
touch screens and things?

not so good for fiddly camera buttons. I think I'll just have to have chilly finger tips
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:18, Reply)
Well normal gloves work for some touch screens
But ipod touch screens, and some others, only work when skin is in contact, due to something to do with the electrical signals that are transferred by the skin, but not through insulating material such as gloves.

I was hailing the geekery actually
I've been getting shocking headaches. Fingers crossed I need some glasses!!
(, Sat 9 Jan 2010, 17:22, Reply)
Maybe you're just dying
But probably not. Maybe.

I thought I needed glasses because of sore heads, but it was just because I was spending about 17 hours a day in front of a screen.
