Loads of things
Like Hooverphonic for music - can't remember who.
Like AVG for free anti-virus stuff - Mong the Merciless.
Like torrents for TV I've missed or hasn't been shown in the UK - Humpty Dumpty was pushed.
Like men for keeping the bed warm - BGB.

Possibly more stuff than that but they're the things that stick out most.

AVG?
Dear oh dear me... Please don't say you class it as a good thing. It's useless as a piece of software, uses masses of resources and is really difficult to uninstall when you finally do get fed up of it. Kaspersky is much better. Not free admittedly, but it works.

Oh, I don't use it now
as I have to use a work licensed one in order to get onto the intranet to do stuff from home.

However, I did find it useful, but you're right it is very clunky and uses up a large amount of resources...but I found Norton to be the same. Admittedly I've not used Kaspersky.

I once tried Bullguard. My God that was fucking awful.
Made my laptop so fucking slow it might as well have been riddled with cyber-nasties.

Avast is what you want these days

This ^
AVG was good back in the day with version 6, even 7.0 was OK but since then it has been getting more and more bloated for no gains in usuability or detection. Add to that the fact that they don't have a free edition of the x64 edition and I've moved on to Avast and have been very happy with it once I remembered to switch off the update notification sounds so I stopped getting woken up by my laptop in the middle of the night robotically saying "Virus database has been updated"

I've tried
probably every fucking AV under the sun, and can only recommend McAfee, and Panda (from 2009 on) - again, not free though
