Well, everyone has gone home from the office, and I'm on my own. Playing on the 'puter right now is Tractor, by Tractor, as recommended by our own dear Monty. Fuck, Amazon are quick.
What advice have you taken from a B3tan, and lived to regret/treasure?
Whether or not I am enjoying "Tractor" at the moment will be in the replies somewhere.

As recommended by Vipros.
I was most pleased.

suggested by Monty, despite him not having listened to them.
I'm sure there are loads of things I've been advised on, but fucked if I can remember what they are.
Thanks to everyone who has recommended something good though.

Vipros told me to listen to Gordon Giltrap.
DiT gave me a recipe that I've still not got round to making.
Several B3tans extolled the virtues of griddle pans.
In fact I need to stop because nearly everyone here has either given me a film/book/album/food suggestion or a nugget of information/encouragement/advice, and I can't thank everyone.
I love you guys... *sniff*

Even if you hate it, I'm pleased you're giving it a go. The variety of styles and techniques I find amazing - but I do concede that some/many may think it's 'a load of old hippy bollocks'.
It was recorded in a tiny bedroom oop north somewhere, which I find astounding.
Tuggers has tipped me for some excellent stuff as has young Cancer. And others too, of course: thank you all.

I got severe flak when I put it on this morning and a high pitch whine filled the office.
Now its empty, I'm air guitaring my way through Ravencroft's 13 bar Boogie.
Its the 30th anniversary special disk.
:)

I would bung it on in the car and blow the speakers apart.

I'll purchase a copy
(for some reason I want that to be read as per-chase)

it doesn't sound far from what me and my mate are doing, in spirit at least

They reformed for a couple of gigs a few years back. A pal and I are very seriously contemplating commissioning a one-off London show.

was suggested by el poppeto, and thoroughly enjoyed
edit: however I really really really can't get my head around Mastodon, people on here rave about them but it just ain't happening for me.

monty is always recommending stuff that I forget and there is a whole thread about chilled guitar music that i need to dig out from somewhere!
(, Wed 27 Jan 2010, 17:31, Reply)
is a beautiful album of chilled and technically incredible guitar music without being up it's own arse.
(, Wed 27 Jan 2010, 17:32, Reply)
was going to be similarly revelatory. Unfortunately, bar I think one track, it is actually fucking shit.
Heartily disappointed.

as it has some 80s sounding synth and drums, but it's worth persevering with as his guitar playing is basically unique. Virtuoso folk is how I would describe it.
(, Wed 27 Jan 2010, 17:36, Reply)
It's like folk with added 1980s regional ident music from the ITV networks.

I might have a listen online. Thanks for the tip.

Like Hooverphonic for music - can't remember who.
Like AVG for free anti-virus stuff - Mong the Merciless.
Like torrents for TV I've missed or hasn't been shown in the UK - Humpty Dumpty was pushed.
Like men for keeping the bed warm - BGB.
Possibly more stuff than that but they're the things that stick out most.

Dear oh dear me... Please don't say you class it as a good thing. It's useless as a piece of software, uses masses of resources and is really difficult to uninstall when you finally do get fed up of it. Kaspersky is much better. Not free admittedly, but it works.
(, Wed 27 Jan 2010, 17:46, Reply)
as I have to use a work licensed one in order to get onto the intranet to do stuff from home.
However, I did find it useful, but you're right it is very clunky and uses up a large amount of resources...but I found Norton to be the same. Admittedly I've not used Kaspersky.

Made my laptop so fucking slow it might as well have been riddled with cyber-nasties.
(, Wed 27 Jan 2010, 17:51, Reply)
AVG was good back in the day with version 6, even 7.0 was OK but since then it has been getting more and more bloated for no gains in usuability or detection. Add to that the fact that they don't have a free edition of the x64 edition and I've moved on to Avast and have been very happy with it once I remembered to switch off the update notification sounds so I stopped getting woken up by my laptop in the middle of the night robotically saying "Virus database has been updated"

probably every fucking AV under the sun, and can only recommend McAfee, and Panda (from 2009 on) - again, not free though

Best advice I ever got.
Tourettes and Davros introduced me to the wonders of wine in a box.

First one that comes to mind is bazmorningstar recommending yourcodenameis:milo who I now love to pieces.
Couple of good ones from rachelswipe but I'm biased as I'm completely in love with her The Music which I liked a lot and Monkey Dust which made me cry with laughter.
And althegeordie insisted I give anal sex a go. I am not a fan.
