for I did not find the answers that I wanted.
The Dell's to be harvested are Optiplex 745's and the Mobo that I want to add (ideally RAM) to is a Gigabyte GA-945-PL-S3.

the Gigabyte board takes DDR2 (see here: www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2325) and as far as I can tell the donor Dell does too ( www.dell.com/us/en/dfb/desktops/optix_745/pd.aspx?refid=optix_745&cs=28&s=dfb )

The first Google result on "Optiplex 745" is: www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/optix/en/opti_745techspecs.pdf which says DDR2, 533Mhz and the first Google result on "Gigabyte GA-945-PL-S3" is www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2325 which says DDR2 533, so, yes the RAM will be compatible, probably, as should be the CPU and HDD, so you're in luck there, probably.
That said, if you cannot work out this by yourself I'm not sure I'd trust you with a screwdriver to open the case, so I take no responsibility for your certain death by accidentally slashing your own wrists with a surprisingly sharp stick of RAM.
In fact when this happens, I demand you post pictured by way of payment for the 2 minutes of my life spent copying and pasting simple search terms into Google for you.
You spacktard.
Edit: oh fuckity fuck, it the time I spent adding insults to my post someone else beat me to it, with a polite response grrrr.

I happen to have a Dell 745 on my desk right now. The RAM is DDR2 240 pin DIMMS I use PC6400 in my 745. The Ram for the Gigabyte board is also 240 pin DDR2 so will fit.
I found most of this information buy googling "Optiplex 745 RAM" and "Gigabyte GA-945PL-S3 RAM"
