was renamed STD a while ago. But that caused an obvious confusion with telephone codes, so I believe such things are now referred to as sexually transmitted infections.
But an STI sounds like a souped up Vauxhall Astra to me.

HIV is an infection but not a disease, as are a few other STI's.
