So
what are your opinions of applying for jobs that are above your pay grade?
I've seen a job advertised in the place I work that is a shit load more money where I have everything they need except a masters. Is it worth applying?

Have you not heard back from the other job?

(, Wed 26 May 2010, 13:30, Reply)
Nope, I wont until next week.

(, Wed 26 May 2010, 13:31, Reply)
You said that last week...

Is the masters 'desirable' or 'essential'?

(, Wed 26 May 2010, 13:32, Reply)
"Masters or equivilent experience" essential
"Professional qualifications" desireable.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 13:34, Reply)
Equivalent experience
Do you haz it?
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 13:34, Reply)
I've been doing my job for 18 months,
a lot of masters students couldn't.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 13:36, Reply)
There you go then

(, Wed 26 May 2010, 13:37, Reply)
Go for it.
You'll regret it if you don't.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 13:35, Reply)
Yeah I might as well, I suppose
should only take me a couple of hours to apply.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 13:38, Reply)
Employers will generally ask for say 5 things
However, if you have 4 of the things that they want then you're pretty close, and no-one else might have all 5 anyway.

Apply, what have you got to lose?
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 13:35, Reply)
I always apply for jobs
that are over my pay grade. For the sake of firing off a CV and updating a cover letter you don't have anything to lose
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 13:37, Reply)
My bloke barely knew fuck all about the job he's doing now
it was all to do with Sharepoint, which he'd never done, so he just researched it the weekend before the interview and winged it. It's always worth taking the shot even if they tell you to sod off. They're probably just saying masters to weed out the idiots, you might be able to convince them you have the equivalent in experience. However, it is a masters, rather than just a degree, so you'd be lucky.
(, Wed 26 May 2010, 13:38, Reply)
Can you contact them first
And check if you'd be wasting your time applying? That way you'd save some hassle and maybe also get to sell yourself.

Just read this again.
Really go for it. You already work there and have a proven track record. Gives you an advantage of sorts immediately.
As long as they like you more than we do.

Nothing is above your pay grade
Never hold back as its important to learn about your weaknesses from feedback of failed applications.

Then you will know what to work on to get there in the end.

Go for it and good luck!

I read that as 'Nothing is above your gay pride'
