Just sell my house and get a train ticket to wherever.

Mr bf was very worried yesterday about moving to the South, as it'd be so complicated. FFS! I came to England without a paid job, a house or friends and I did more than well.
I need at least a year off work to go around and see the world.

but Wiggy likes job security. To be honest, so do I, but I'd still like to save up a couple of grand and then just do something crazy like buying a boat and fucking off.

you'd be horrified at how expensive they are. particularly one which you could use to sail to the bahamas.

it's just beautiful. Trains are always late and sweaty people always smear themselves on me.

And I love the sea, but I get sick, so no.

it's the Northwest trains that are horrible. They still have those bench seats that cram 3 people on one side and 2 on the other and the whole train shakes and screeches its way down the line. And it's usually late.
Trains in Europe seem to be brilliant though.

Trains going to the North (appart from Edinbrugh or Glasgow) are always awful.
I've taken long distance trains in different parts of Europe and they're always great. In Belgium, the first time, we spend 10 min trying to find the 2nd class and so surprised that the 1st class had so many coaches, until someone pointed that we were already in the 2nd class.

My dad was in the navy and currently owns three boats. I know how much boats cost.

if I were sailing across any significant amount of water I'd be doing it on something like this

which costs more than my house

This is the blog I've been reading,

he bought a rare boat that was all rotten and gross and did it up, which is pretty cool. Makes it all the more satisfying to sail.

his last one was an 80 year old wooden racing yacht, the latest is approaching that age but has a cabin and stuff.
nice boats, but I wouldn't trust them to get me very far in a storm.

I'd need a satellite phone so I could call my dad when it starts taking on water. Last time I went down to see my parents we went out on their narrow boat and Wiggy really enjoyed driving it so hopefully he's developing the sea spirit. They've also got a dutch barge in France but they're selling it which is a real shame, I really wanted to go out on it one last time. They also have a canoe, but it was waterlogged last time I visited so I didn't fancy it. My dad was talking about getting a catamaran and mooring it outside Australia if and when I emigrate.

some friends of mine down near Plymouth have a cat which I want to go out on. The mrs isn't a sea-goer though, she got a little queasy on the car ferry to the Hebrides and that was almost as flat as it gets...
the friends I mention used to crew one of the boats I linked to earlier for a millionaire banker guy. Based in Antigua, they would bum about for most of the time, and when the banker came out they'd sail him and his family where he wanted to go.

they went a bit mental though after a while. one of them quite literally, so they came back to blighty and got proper jobs.
they are now married as well which is nice. I feel I should point out that they are a bloke and a girl.

if that were the case, I probably wouldn't be here.

First time in my life that I have enough to take some time off, but my Mr. is too worried about his career and never is a good moment to take such a long time off.
I'm trying to convince him to do it for our honeymoon, even if it's only a couple of months.
(, Thu 10 Jun 2010, 10:40, Reply)
for any length of time he wouldn't be able to just come back in at the same position unfortunately so we're a bit stuck. Hoping to emigrate in a few years though so that'll do me for adventure for a while.
(, Thu 10 Jun 2010, 10:43, Reply)
to get a promotion, which is not easy right now, so I'd think he'll need a couple of years to get it, and then, he won't be able to just leave, he'll need to make the position stable.
By the time he can make it, all my adventurous feelings will be dead under a pile of baby bottles and shit.

when you're really rich from all his work you can just take 6 month breaks whenever you like.

Who've done very well, with only the father having a permanent job. They now have a great house and take a lot of holidays, although not long, because they feel bad if they're too long far from home.

and sailed it around France, which is pretty cool. I want to do that when I'm old.

I stayed on one when I went to Amsterdam for a stag do. it was awesome. much better than a hostel.

If I can't convince him for a long break for our hm, then I'll start planning for when we retire :(
