I know a lot about art, but I don't know what I like
and I like this.

Stuff where the the constuction and process is integralto the art is generally engaging.

Pfft!
Wank art mumbo jumbo.
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:29, Reply)
You fucking pleb.

(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:30, Reply)
Stop trying to flirt with me.

(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:31, Reply)
That was said with utter distain.
all the "I don't get art" "I don't like science" "I don't like foreign films" shouldn't ever be considered a valid opinion it's just laziness.
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:33, Reply)
I do get art.
I went to fucking art school.
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:34, Reply)
Then why don't you show some respect for the effort and talent that this took?

(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:36, Reply)
because that doesn't
qualify it as art. It qualifies it for interest and respect, but not for relevance as an artistic work
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:37, Reply)
I wasn't dismissing the art.
I was dismissing Cave duck's description.

I was part of the 'I refuse to talk bollox' school of art.
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:39, Reply)
Talking bollocks is an integral part of the art appreciation process.
You are therefore, in a class of one.
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:51, Reply)
Not really.
There were a few of us who declined to play the game.

This is probably why I didn't get my BA. Well that and being a lazy cow.

You should have just said that you were your own installation and demanded your degree
While dressed in a beret and smoking a french fag.
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:57, Reply)
I did smoke french fags for a while *laughs*

(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:58, Reply)
That's 1st class honours then.

(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 16:03, Reply)
I agree
I love art, but I hate all the pretentious bollocks that is spouted around it.
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:38, Reply)
I'm with BGB on that
art doesn't interest me unless it's finished and means something or is beautiful. That thing up there is neither, and mumbo-jumbo about construction as an ethic of art or whatever is definitely just wank
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:32, Reply)
I went to art school and know it when I hear it.

(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:32, Reply)
mostly I'd be with you on the construction as an ethic thing
but because this is a great piece of engineering it appeals on a number of levels.
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:33, Reply)
Not at all
My Dad was an engineer and extremely practical man. I've inherited his interest in how things are actually made. It's actually a pragmatic artisan's view rather than some high falutin pretentious interpreting of the artists emotional motivation.
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:37, Reply)
Then you have my apologies.

(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:41, Reply)
That's very kind, but not necessary
Having re-read my post, I can see how why you would think that. The bit about knowing a lot about art was supposed to just a daft reversal of what many people say when asked about art.

Besides I'll no doubt come out with something wanky and pretentious soon, so you may as well leave the insult in place, to save having to get out again later.
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:51, Reply)
It's ok.
After three years at art school and hearing all the pretentious wank some of the students came out with, I get a little ranty when it rears it's ugly head.
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:53, Reply)
What particular area/ media did/do you like to work in/with?

(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:57, Reply)
I have to go now.
I'll gaz you later.
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:58, Reply)
Yeah, that's what all the girls say.

(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 16:04, Reply)
that's why this appeals to me
particularly because of the type of construction. also, it's going to be strolling down the beach, powered by the wind. what's not to like?
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:32, Reply)
they're interesting
but not necessarily art
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:34, Reply)
thinking about it
I'm not sure whether I consider that type of thing art or not. I assumed it was because I was told as much.
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 15:35, Reply)
I have some beans that may interest you.
