But that was back when tuition fees were paid for by the local authority. I had to live at home rather than go away, but it did mean I wasn't bankrupt by the end of my degree.

University is almost free for us.
I don't know what I would have done with a debt like those, with no job, being just a graduate. It's difficult enough to start with a 0 in your account.
