It goes down from parent to child, doesn't it, and you're only The Queen/King when you're the son/daughter of the current king/queen, and they cark it.... so what is up with The Queen Mother, surely she should have been The Queen until she died, then it gets passed down to Liz... or did they fast forward it?... and if they did, surely it's time to give Charlie a go, it's not like he's got long left.

What I mean though, is, was The Queen Mother ever the queen?

during ww2, she was the queen!
i am 99% sure of this.
there you go dude. she was the queen consort, ie queen because she was married to the king:
"A queen consort is the wife of a reigning king. A queen consort usually shares her husband's rank and holds the feminine equivalent of the king's monarchical titles. Most of the time, however, queen consorts have no real power.
Most queens in history were queens consort; the other kind, queens regnant (queens in their own right), who inherit the throne on the death of the previous monarch, are far fewer in number"

I was thinking that Liz would still be a princesses until Queen Mother died, a bit like how Charles will only be king when Liz dies.... but that Queen Mother lived to see Queen Liz become Queen, which is where I thought it was unusual.

Thinking about it though, I can't imagine being alive 100 years ago, she's probably seen more changes in, well, anything, than most other living people, the 20th century humanity leepfrogged itself in so many way.
