Get drunk and choose what you can afford with the money you have left
That's what I did, after a week long military exercise, we stopped up for 'Adventure Training' in a little camp outside Newquay. So we headed off to Newquay to spend our hard earned pay. After an afternoon drinking, I went off to the tattooists with my corporal, whol was getting his ex wife's name blacked out. Managed to persuade the tattooist that I was sober and got a tat of a howling wolf, in front of a setting sun. It has been variously described as a snail and a seal. It's not the best tat in the world.

My second tat, an arm band, was done by a tufugu tatau in Western Samoa, with a big stick, a shark's tooth and some indian ink.

Sage advice
Sadly, twenty two years to late. Still another chap did the same thing and came back with a huge parrot coveing most of his shoulder, so I reckon I got off lightly.
