Really?
So it's like that 'proceeds of crime recovery' old bill unit that spent 10 million quid recovering about 25 grand?

Depends who you ask and depends on how/where they're made.

I could be wrong, not 100% sure.

(, Wed 6 Oct 2010, 13:43, Reply)
No, you're pretty correct
Up around this latitude anyway. You're far better off going for solar heating, as it gives a much better payback, and generally works a bit better.
(, Wed 6 Oct 2010, 13:54, Reply)
yeah, true.
The "issue" (as in, not an issue at all) is that the solar grant thing is based around excess electric going back to the grid thus meaning the government can big up their CO2 reduction from power generation. So I don't think the grants are as good for solar heating.

True
I'm pretty sure the solar heating actually works better if you're genuinely looking at making an eco-house.
(, Wed 6 Oct 2010, 13:59, Reply)
solar heating is pretty effective
my bro and my parents have it on theirs houses and even in winter they don't need to heat any water using gas or whatever.

Admittedly we live in sunny Devon, rather than the frozen North
(, Wed 6 Oct 2010, 14:03, Reply)
I just get round the issue by not putting the heating on

(, Wed 6 Oct 2010, 14:04, Reply)
this annoys me greatly
I've got a POCA case sitting on my desk right now where the fraud totalled £1.4m but the confiscation order is only for £75k.
(, Wed 6 Oct 2010, 13:52, Reply)
Is POCA the British RICO?

(, Wed 6 Oct 2010, 13:56, Reply)
is that the conspiracy thing
where you can try all parties for the same thing?
(, Wed 6 Oct 2010, 14:02, Reply)
I thought it was a 'proceeds of crime' thing in the US
Asset seizure etc.
(, Wed 6 Oct 2010, 14:05, Reply)
one would imagine you were right.

(, Wed 6 Oct 2010, 14:06, Reply)
yes that's the one

(, Wed 6 Oct 2010, 14:25, Reply)
It's the Proceeds of Crime Act
where after the guy is convicted and sentenced for his fraud they then do a POCA hearing to determine how many of his assets they can recover.

We've got a guy in for POCA at the moment who was convicted of counterfeit DVDs and benefit fraud to the tune of £200k. His POCA is worth £10k because he's spent it all.
(, Wed 6 Oct 2010, 14:25, Reply)
Course he has.
Just like Dame Shirley Porter.
