But if you suspect you might need to use the data on their in a complaints or criminal procedure later, then either don't use the laptop at all, or if you really have to, take an image of the hard drive first.

See if you can take a whole disk image (using Ghost or a similar program), as that will capture the free space of the drive too, which might contain useful deleted data.

I am wary of bees too. However they don't tend to buzz around like wasps and there aren't so many of them so less of a problem.
