Filling up with odds and ends of furniture, waiting for carpet and for me to pull my finger out and buy important things.

It's just the way they roll.
I'm not complaining really, it's a £130k flat landed in my lap so I don't feel right bitching about £300 worth of carpet and fitting.

Can't argue with that, really... I'm sure there's places to buy cheap carpet same as there are to buy cheap everything else!

You can get quite cheap carpet from carpet shops.
It's not great but it will last a few years and you can replace each room when you can. Get a neutral colour too.

Hopefully got a guy who'll fit it and skank the carpet from offcuts/end-rolls he gets at work this week.
