I think they'll drag it out either for a few more episodes - or for the rest of the season.
I think he will though, otherwise dean will have to kill him. Not even kidding. Dean can't handle Soulless Sam.

he beat him up quite badly. What I'm puzzled about though is why Sam stayed with him. Soulless Sam presumably has no emotional connection to Dean, so the better option logically would be to stay with the family. Wonder if his memories hold him back

so he wants to be on the side that suits his needs better.
