Don't overcool your beer. Most brewers of good beer recommend that lagers are served between 10 - 12 degrees and bitters between 12- 14 degrees. And do use a glass.

That's precisely it it does dull the taste if it's too cold.
also more of tha gas is realeased in the warmth of the gut rather than in the glass increasing that bloated feeling (and making you fart more).
