now I'd quite like the manipulation of metal to go with it

I should however note that most mutations end badly.

edits: That one cats can have where it looks like they grow wings looks pretty cool though.

once. Take a Break or something. In it there was a woman who was magnetic and attracted small pieces of metal. When she was upset and stressed it got worse and tills/lights/electric doors would stop functioning around her

that emit some sort of weird radiation that fucks up electrical stuff, similarly when they get stressed, lights flicker and things turn off and on and stuff. Might be bollocks, mind...

Mutations are neither good nor bad. Generally they're just a one or two nucleotide change which don't DO anything - just a typo if you will. However depending on where that typo is, depends on what happens. If it's in the middle of an important gene which regulates cell fate (ie, an oncogene such as p53 or BRCA1) then that spelling mistake can mean that the gene no longer fulfills its function and the cell doesn't die, it divides rapidly, accumulating more mutations. That's what cancer is - a mass of cells which don't die as they ought and which have the ability to pick themselves up and wander all over your body causing trouble.
Given that the large majority of your genome is junk, however... most mutations happen in great swathes of stuff that doesn't matter and therefore have no effect whatsoever.

Also, how can Amberl make herself magnetic?
(, Fri 26 Nov 2010, 22:34, Reply)
fill piercings with powerful magnets. job done.

calcium is a metal. Metal can be made magnetic if you wang a big enough charge through it, I think. Probably wouldn't be massively good for you though...
