Those stickers
in UK shop windows that proudly proclaim that it is.. Illegal to smoke on these premises.
They dont tell you that its illegal to murder someone on these premises, or that its illegal to shoplift from these premises, so why does EVERY shop have it on their frontage?

Because people are more likely to smoke in the pemises, due to the new no-smoking law.
I would have thought that was fairly obvious.
Also, I am quite sure it's a legal requirement. At least it is on building sites.

Because
part of the anti-smoking legislation requires that those signs be up. Not sticking them up comes with a fairly huge fine.

It IS a legal requirement. And its annoying to get fined for having the wrong sodding sort of sticker.

Legal eh?
my mind boggles at the stupidity of it all. Whatever next seatbelt stickers, or what about wrappers of sweets? it should proudly and prominently say its illeagl to toss the stuff anywhere but in a bin.

Signs on building sites proclaiming
"We are considerate contractors", which means they don't yell out comments about tits, or play the radio too loud. I worked on sites and it was compulsory to do these things back then; "Flop one out your mum did", was a favourite of mine.

Just like
"Baby on Board". Like I was going to speed up and ram them, but changed my mind. "Oh look, honey, they've got a baby on board. I guess I won't commit vehicular manslaughter."
Dickweeds.

Firstly...
It is a legal requirement, so every shop *must* display those in good view
The reason we have those and no 'don't murder' signs is the fact that until a year ago, you were allowed to smoke at the shopowners discresion, so the signs confirm to everyone that is now banned in its entirety
Maybe rather superflous now, but there was definately a point when the bans kicked in.
