BBC fecking iplayer
Because of the stupid logic surrounding it.

I have a TV and cable so rarely watch the BBC as it's full of wank like Eastenders and Animal Hospital. Yet I have to pay £124 a year because my TV can RECEIVE BBC and I may get drunk and decide to watch Gardeners World at 3am.

I have a computer connected to the internet that can play BBCs iPlayer. I do not need a TV licence for this. And the iPlayer has the actual decent stuff from the BBC on it, like the yummy Doctor.

So why the hell do I have to pay £124 for the privilege of having a TV when what I am paying to watch I can watch for free on the internet - and watch it legally to boot!!

They should make TVs that don't receive BBC channels if you don't watch them and then I wouldn't have to fork out stupid money for stupid shit and those annoying BBC3 playdoh poos.

You need a TV licence
...to watch television, not just television from the BBC. Blocking all BBC channels wouldn't make a jot of difference.

I think you will find...
The money all goes to the BBC and they spend it like this
www.bbc.co.uk/info/licencefee/

All the other channels use advertising for revenue and are funded privately or grants from the government to produce "educational" programmes mainly. They do not see a penny of the TV licence. So you are paying just to watch the BBC. SO by banning them you, in theory, wouldn't have to pay the fee.

Edit: Bravo to the BBC though for managing to obviously hide the fact that you are just paying for them!

I think you will find...
...that while your theory is logical enough, it bears little relation to the law. Plenty of people have tried the "but I never watch BBC" gambit to their cost.

Which...
Is why I was ranting about the iPlayer and lack of licence needed, when you do need one for a TV even if you don't watch the BBC.

The reason for "banning" the BBC channels would be then you specifically couldn't watch them unless you had a licence. I am aware it's not going to make a blind bit of difference but that's the whole point of pet peeves, bitching about things you cannot change.

Well...
Give me licence fee-funded programming over tosh with advert breaks any day.

I did a little jig when I found out that ITV had lost the rights to the Grand Prix to the BBC. Being able to actually watch the whole thing without them putting a cheeky thirty-second advert break in at every possible opportunity? Bliss!

licence
The licence is for you to own equipment for the purpose of receiving broadcasted tv channels. It might not have a plug on it for all they care.
