This is a question Political Correctness Gone Mad

Freddy Woo writes: "I once worked on an animation to help highlight the issues homeless people face in winter. The client was happy with the work, then a note came back that the ethnic mix of the characters were wrong. These were cartoon characters. They weren't meant to be ethnically anything, but we were forced to make one of them brown, at the cost of about 10k to the charity. This is how your donations are spent. Wisely as you can see."

How has PC affected you? (Please add your own tales - not five-year-old news stories cut-and-pasted from other websites)

It's probably just me...

but does anybody else think it's a bit odd when, in boxing, a black guy is fighting a white guy, and they are described by the colour of their shorts? Like it's wrong to notice their skin colour or easier to spot the shorts then the colour of the whole of their bodies?

I mean...of course I can understand the logic when there are two white guys or two black guys boxing...

oh I don't know

Maybe it's tradition?
Also I'd imagine making it about the shorts (and by extension the corner) gives acknowledgement to the support people.

Surely
Unless they were both wearing the same coloured shorts it would seem a bit weird to comment based on the colour of their skin? To have a different rule as to how you refer to a boxer depending on whether he's fighting someone of the same race or not would be illogical. Also, what about mixed race, hispanic, and asian boxers? Brown v White? Brown v Lighter Shade of Brown?

Good Points ^^...
It wouldn't really help matters having boxers lining up against a Dulux-style colour chart at the weigh in.

Dunno.
I never watch boxing.

Words of Wisdom
Just remember the words of Lt Frank Drebbin, Police Squad...

"Never bet on the white guy"

Self-deprecation is OK for anglos, remember.

I too have never willingly watched boxing.
But it could just be for continuity reasons.

when was the last time...
you saw a white guy boxing?
(, Tue 27 Nov 2007, 3:52, closed)
Joe Calzaghe.
Ricky Hatton.

I'm sure there are more, but those two off the top of my head. And the best boxers at their weights in the world they are too.

I don't see
why we should start ignoring the colour of their shorts...that's may favourite bit.

It's probably just me...
but why do they discriminate between people's weight in boxing?? being lighter generally means you're not as good a boxer, but you don't see basketball being divided into height categories, or 100m sprints split into skin colour categories.

What we essentially end up with, is:

Strongest light guy

but not

Fastest white guy.

Go figure

What about...
Lightest strong guy?
Whitest fast guy?
