This is a question Prejudice

"Are you prejudiced?" asks StapMyVitals. Have you been a victim of prejudice? Are you a columnist for a popular daily newspaper? Don't bang on about how you never judge people on first impressions - no-one will believe you.

On a serious note, of course...
...yes I'm prejudiced.

So are you. So is everyone. Nobody meets a new person - or indeed cat - and doesn't instantly make some assumptions based on their appearance, unless they have quite a severe mental condition which makes them unable to make associations with past experiences.

The difference between being a complete tosser and not is being aware how flawed these initial perceptions are - which will vary - and being ready to actively suppress them at first and subsequently modify them.

What's slightly odd is that so many people on here hold prejudices against someone who sounds posh and went to Eton* rather than specific policy disagreements, but think it's unacceptable to hold prejudices about other groups. It's really no less stupid.

*I wish to state for the record, however, that I will not be voting for said man. But that's not "because he's posh".

There are nice poshos, and posh cunts.
He's the latter. "Cunt" is the operative words.
(, Wed 7 Apr 2010, 14:47, closed)
indeed.
Especially for gynaecologists.
(, Wed 7 Apr 2010, 14:50, closed)
Don't be so mean to cunts.
What have they ever done to deserve likening to Cameron?
(, Wed 7 Apr 2010, 15:13, closed)
I also will not be voting for him
not for being posh per se, but because his priveleged upbringing separates him far from the electorate and excludes him from being able to relate to them enough to make policy to suit them.
(, Wed 7 Apr 2010, 15:10, closed)
This.
If voting for a representative then it's entirely reasonable to choose not to vote for someone who you feel is unrepresentative of the vast majority of the country.
(, Wed 7 Apr 2010, 15:13, closed)
And which of them exactly...
...does live your lifestyle?

Really?
(, Wed 7 Apr 2010, 16:53, closed)
It's not necessarily about my lifestyle.
It's about being unrepresentative of the vast majority of people.
(, Wed 7 Apr 2010, 23:56, closed)
Everyone's unrepresentative of the majority of people
It'd be a pretty ****ed up country if we were all that similar. Why does everyone believe "people like me" are the majority? It's clearly lies...

I suppose we could try to find the most representative person of Britain, but that would lead to someone of average intelligence, with a streak of latent racism, who is moderately successful, and has 2.4 children.

That's not a bad thing necessarily, but not the criteria I'd pick as most important for selecting someone to run the country.

I'd happily vote Scargil...
... Over this shower of shit.
The Labour party is hardly filled with actual labourers or, indeed, anyone who wants to help them.
For fuck's sake -- the red banner does not mean they are not a bunch of privatly-educated Tories...
(, Wed 7 Apr 2010, 18:08, closed)
I'm not a New Labour supporter.

(, Wed 7 Apr 2010, 23:56, closed)

Those he's most seperate from (chavscum), I'd rather they weren't voting anyway. Policy which suits them involves massive benefits and fuck-all motivation to get a job. I'd much rather have Cameron as PM, making policy to suit the middle classes who after all ALWAYS get raped by Labour when it comes to taxation. We pay our tax, our road fines and our VAT. Most of the LCD try and avoid it, yet demand everything off the state as their right.

We create the wealth this nation runs on, so why the hell should we accept getting treated like scum?

Surely you meant: www.dailymail.co.uk?
(, Wed 7 Apr 2010, 16:41, closed)
Have you done this?
voteforpolicies.org.uk/

I was surprised at my results. Obviously government is about more than just policies, working out how likely you think the party will be to carry out their promises and how capable they might be of doing so are also important. It's an interesting little website though.

can't get the bastard to work :-(

(, Wed 7 Apr 2010, 15:38, closed)
Yeah it is
i completed it about 3 months ago and it came out Lib Dem, I was going to vote for them anyway..Obviously a lot of peeps are going there cos the link isnt broken but you have to try it numerous times.
(, Wed 7 Apr 2010, 15:45, closed)
I'm a Lib Dem voter but I came out as 100% Green.
It made me slightly sad to think that the things I believe in will never be the views of the government. Then again I ummed and ahhed quite a lot and I didn't pick to choose the economic policies, which I think is something that the Lib Dems are strongest on.

I'm also in a marginal Labour constituency where the Lib Dems are the closest and only real viable opposition.
(, Wed 7 Apr 2010, 16:01, closed)
Conservative
but then I already know the policies of most parties and so was more than a little biased
(, Wed 7 Apr 2010, 15:52, closed)
Im slightly concerned
It says 50% Conservative, Hooray :) And 50 BNP.........
(, Wed 7 Apr 2010, 16:01, closed)
I did a similar one a while back
and was quite surprised to discover I'm a bit New Labour. Frankly I'd always assumed I was one of those Lib Dems who's really a Tory at heart...
(, Wed 7 Apr 2010, 16:55, closed)
I'm not.
