I was sceptical of doctors…
For misdiagnosing my brother’s broken back 7 years ago resulting in it healing rather oddly, so now it’s at the stage where the misshapen vertebrae will eventually press against nerves and paralyse him. If they operate to correct it, that may also paralyse him. Good one.

However, my girlfriend was diagnosed with leukaemia at the weekend and has now been admitted into hospital for a month of intense chemo.

The doctors and nurses have been absolutely awesome the last few days, so my faith in them is being restored… I take back mean things I said… now fix her please and thank you.

P.s sorry I don’t have any puns

eep
I didn't really know what to say, but make sure you look after yourself as well as her, sometimes things like that are harder for the loved ones. Stay strong.

some doctors can be cunts
look after your girl, let her know how much she's loved and give her my best wishes for a speedy recovery

my mate broke his back a week ago....
he came off his bike going down a hill, and managed to knock himself out as well so he can't remember the crash. He was hurty all over and we were worried about the gash on his head. So we sat for a bit while we looked him over for concussion or issues from him smacking his head, then bundled him into a landy and continued on the pub for dinner and beer. He still wasn't feeling great so we decided to send him off to A&E to get checked out.

Anyway, he waited for about 4 hours, being periodically poked by the nurse (apparently that's how they initially diagnose broken vertibrae) and they asked to bend over and wiggle about to see what kind of range of movement he had (!?!) They were about to discharge him when twas decided that maybe an xray was best after all.

When the results came back they ran out to where he was waiting and instructed him not to budge an inch til they got a brace on him.

Good luck with the chemo
hope it goes well.

Please remember that doctors are people and people make mistakes. Doctors do it very rarely but they still do it sometimes.

cancer
my fella has just gone into remission from leukemia. He has just turned 22. Its been a long long road to go down, and its pretty heartbreaking seeing him so ill. But, its so treatable now its unlikely to be fatal.... Just a helpful tip for you guys.

- Keep everything in the house as clean as possible.
- If anyone you know even has a the slightest cough, dont let them near her, we learnt the hard way, the chemo kills her immune system dead. even colds put my fella in intensive care.
- Steroids made my man put on alot of weight. so be preared for it.
- Muscle waistage while in hospital is a big issue. When she is home encourage her to potter round the house. My man got chain mail and wore it in the house to build himself back up (but that would be silly for a lady) ya get my meaning tho.

and keep positive. you can cry on your own time. buzz me if you need any advice or support.

Thanks guys
I appreciate that. It's still a bit of a headspin as it all happened in 2 days. She's only 22, but we're looking at that as a positive as she has youth on her side.

I feel cliche saying take each day at a time, but that's what we're having to do. All I can do is be there for her and keep her positive and strong. I have an amazing group of friends to fall back on when i'm feeling upset, but it's really helpful hearing other people's experiences- especially young adults.

Thanks again.
