This is a question Money-saving tips

I'm broke, you're broke, we're all broke. Even the smug guy on the balcony with the croissant hasn't got two AmEx gold cards to rub together these days. Tell everybody your schemes to save cash.

Get your shopping delivered by Ocado
Seriously.

I pay £10 a month for as many deliveries as I want so long as I spend £40 a time.
I get one delivery a week at the moment and generally don't go over £40 a week. This is my total shop. Very rarely do I go anywhere between deliveries, except the market for some vegetables, where I spend about £3. That does the two of us for the week.

Because I don't go to a supermarket I am not distracted by offers I don't need. As I can shop through the week I add items to my basket as I use them. Because I am at home when I shop I am never find that I buy something because I am not sure if I have run out or not.

If you think you are going to spend over £70 and you time it right then you can get free delivery in some slots. (not that I need to as I pay for delivery in advance)

Also they price match Tesco.

And you haven't had to drive or get the bus to a supermarket.

Yeah, I totally have £40 a week to spend on groceries.
I walk a mile or two to Aldi and spend maybe a tenner.
(, Sun 13 Nov 2011, 23:36, closed)
pauper!
How many croissants does one get for tenner, then?

Jeebus we're taking it all out on /main
when /talk are the real culprits.
BD - you need to walk further so you can save on your internet costs.

taking what out?

(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 8:49, closed)
I'm talking about the whole "smug-croissant" thing.
That is all.

I think it's such an amazing meme
that I'm going to graffiti it on a series of stop signs and bus windows.
(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 12:30, closed)
Calm down, online.

(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 11:03, closed)
I note that you're not out walking to pick up your shopping BD.
Feel free to go now. Don't hurry back.
(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 11:41, closed)
Is this true? You still skint BD?

(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 18:36, closed)
I'm a student, being skint is part of the lifestyle.

This is a great way
to keep the riff-raff out of Waitrose.
(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 9:22, closed)
I went to Waitrose
yesterday, and bought a 1.5kg bag of strong white bread flour, and a packet of yeast.

Total £1.88

This enabled me and my daughter to bake a huge loaf of bread, using less than half of the ingredients we bought. We all sat and watched the X-factor munching on it.

So, Waitrose. Fuck you and your rich patrons. I was in there saving money yesterday. Hahahaha.
(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 11:49, closed)
Tesco
Has 3 for 2 on strong white bread flour, it's 1.24 for 4.5Kg.
Or 1.24 - it's the same 3 for 2 - for 3Kg, and some yeast.

Also - if you make bread regularly - there is no need to buy yeast.
Simply keep some of the mixed dough in the fridge, and it will grow its own yeast.
Just google sourdough.

Top tip.
Thanks.

OTOH, yeast for 7 loves is about 60p, so not too bothered.

Will bag some flour. You just ruined my 'fuck Waitrose' post, seems I spent far more than necessary.

I'd be quite happy to know that "bread and x factor"
was what convicts were being subjected to. Sounds miserable.
(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 12:38, closed)
Well, true - I wouldn't actually choose the
X-factor, but we have a toddler, Saturday nights out are all but impossible. Anyway, Mrs and the 7 year old outvote me.

The bread though, that was delicious. If they get that in prison, I'm going to write to the Times.

Your wife has ruined your children.
I wasted a large chunk of my weekend, watching Lego Star Wars with my nippers.

I'm no good at making anything involving dough (warm hands) so, if we do have homemade bread, it's at the hands of either the missus, or her dad - he's retired, so can easily afford the time required (the rest of us, not so much).
(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 14:13, closed)
So I pay the same as I would getting my shopping from Tesco but I pay an extra £10 per month for delivery?
I'm struggling but failing to see the money-saving tip in this
(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 14:23, closed)
So do you get free delivery from Tesco then?
Also, I don;t have to have anything to do with Tesco.
(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 20:27, closed)
Please be more middle class, you've not quite smugged it up enough yet.
