This is a question Money-saving tips

I'm broke, you're broke, we're all broke. Even the smug guy on the balcony with the croissant hasn't got two AmEx gold cards to rub together these days. Tell everybody your schemes to save cash.

That didn't work
I have no idea what you're saying.

Is this some kind of fraud where you don't pay to post something?

If so, well done.

Explanation.......
Basically... If you fail to put a 'to' address on an envelope, but do put a 'return' or 'sender' on the rear, then your mail will be returned to you stamp or no stamp. So for local mail, if you dont put a stamp on the letter, and dont put a 'to' address on it, but instead put the address of the 'recipient' as the 'return' address, the letter will be sent back to them, or rather delivered to them free of charge.

I like the lateral thinking
However given how shit couriers are and that a first class stamp only costs 46p (come on guys, I know it's gone up but what else can you buy for 46p nowadays?!)for the occasional letter I'll probably just pay.

Could kind of say that about any of these tho really ;)

Not really
I'm not getting on my high horse or anything here, I don't really care either way, but it is fraud.

We have good ideas, bad ideas and a few illegal ideas. Yours is one of the illegal ones.
(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 17:18, closed)

How is it illegal? They chose to return it... ;)
(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 17:21, closed)
It is
illegal.

You are procuring services with the intention of avoiding payment.
(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 17:25, closed)

Doesn't procuring usually involve paying?
I simply got mixed up when posting - and um... how would they know who sent it anyway, if it was a christmas card? I dont have my address on it... ;)

so if you can get away with it, it isn't wrong?
are you 5?
(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 19:07, closed)
Ah, I see!
How foolish of me to not see how that made it legal.

Oh I'm a PhD student
Although that makes me much better off than an undergrad student, and actually quite a few other people at the moment, I still have to keep an eye on my finances. But I agree with username, it is technically fraud, although I'd be amazed if anyone ever went to prison for defrauding 46p out of the post office. I'd rather pay the postage and actually have them deliver my parcels before 1pm!!! Sigh.
(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 17:26, closed)

They deliver before 1pm?
Parcels? Deliver?
You mean deliver that slip that says come and collect 'cos you weren't in, even though they didn't knock?
Because they didn't bring it?
(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 17:27, closed)
I can't remember who said it, but...
If you're quibbling over 46p to post a letter, just try and see how far you can get your letter for 46p!
(, Mon 14 Nov 2011, 17:31, closed)
Exactly that.
I've now discovered that getting them delivered to the chemistry department saves me a trip to the sorting office, which is also only open late once a week.

That's my point, 46p is great value for money!

Ah yes;
What a happy day that was for me, once I realised I could have stuff delivered to work. The first time it happened, and I had to sign for a package; the boss looked at me as if I'd coiled one out on the floor, no doubt displeased at my temerity to actually try to maintain a work/life balance: A little grunt like me, receiving adressed post?

I've been a little tempted to start posting everyone in the branch stuff, just to see if his head explodonates.

(edit: Did anyone else notice that they never cut the second delivery, they just cut the first one and hoped we wouldn't notice? Once, you could have most your post arrive before you left for work.)

Woohoo! 46p!
Wait a minute. Post a letter? Who does that, anymore?
