An Inconsistent Triad
Consider the judgment; "men and women are equal, and therefore deserve equal rights" that is thrown about by feminists. Now consider the following:

1. Men and women are equal.

2. Two things are only equal if and only if they both share all of the properties of the others. (Leibniz PWNS)

3. Men have cocks, women have boobies.

The three statements plainly cannot all obtain:

If 1 and 2 are true, then 3 must be false.
If 2 and 3 are true, then 1 must be false.

2 is mathematically and A PRIORI true, 3 is demonstrably true, yet we can find no proof for 1.

Therefore, 1 is false. Men and Women are not equal.

Conclusion:

If equal rights are to be distributed and "deserved" on account of equality, then women do not deserve equal rights to men, nor vice versa.

i could just sit back and accept this thread for what it is, but really, i can't make myself find this an amusing prospect, so off we go...

"equal" in this case is used to mean two things which although not identical are neither inherantly better nor worse than each other.
unfortunately "neither-inherantly-better-nor-worse-than-each-other-ity" is a bit of a mouthful, so "equaity" makes more sense as a term. if you know of a better word for it, then go ahead.

But when one talks about equality in terms of "equal rights" one expects the rights of the two sexes to be identical, not just "not inherantly (sic) better or worse".

Many rights are tailored to the sexes, quite rightly imho (consider positive discrimination laws designed to level the playing field) due to the fact that we are not equal, this is all I am saying (by way of a slightly provocative argument).

it was an obviously provocative statement and was intended to be lighthearted.

My "misguided" post was simply a bit of banter, the reason I said "lighten up", was because it wasn't supposed to cause offence, or be serious; it's just a pedantic play on a 17th century philosopher's law.
