This is a question Sexism

Freddie Woo tells us: Despite being a well rounded modern man I think women are best off getting married and having a few kids else they'll be absolutely miserable come middle age.

What views do you have that are probably sexist that you believe are true?

Men make television watching too complicated
I just wanted to watch a DVD.

So I had to turn the DVD player, the TV and the amp on.
I then had to turn some dial on the amp until it said DVD and then I had to press a button on the remote until the picture came on the TV.
Then I had to turn a dial on the remote until I found the bit that operates the DVD player.

And it still didn't fucking work because the amp crashed!

Men make it all to complicated.

That wasn't men..
..that was the twattish electrical manufacturers who insist that everything must work together; but not simply.

But why do I need all that crap?
Why do I need an amp?

The TV has speakers.
(, Fri 1 Jan 2010, 16:49, closed)
Because bigger louder speakers are win.

Viera was invented by the Devil
No human would intentionally invent such a device.

No you do need your own zen garden until you suss them
Inscrutable is the politest i can say.

The panasonic speakers are a bit seriously poo compared to the pictures and every one( just like the sony bravia`s) buzzes if you are daft enough to try and use them above a whisper. That`s why you need an amplifier and boxes big enough.

Serious universal remotes ( 100`s of quids) can set up all devices on one button, in the right order for what you want. But programming them is a PhD job or get the daughter to do it for you, or get an anglenear like me. The cheap ones cause more problems as if there are scart interconnects the order they wake up may override what you think will happen. DOH!

Oh we've got a universal remote
That's half the sodding problem.

Learning remotes are a double edged sword
If they aren't set up well, they are more of a hindrance than a help. Chez Hatred, you essentially push "Watch Film", "Watch TV", "Play Playstation" or "Play Wii." The remote will switch inputs to the right place, adjust volume and (where appropriate) bring up the buttons required to control Blu-Ray or $ky. It works brilliantly but it took a fair amount of dicking about with the Pronto to get it just so.

We do however have one remote to control the whole lot and it works perfectly.

Logitech Harmony
Not quite as straightforward to set up as the name might suggest, but much much simpler than most of the fancy remotes.

Oh, and there's a 'help' button which usually sorts you out when things don't quite go to plan...

I cunningly have a Creative surround sound system attached to my tv, which means it is for computer nerds
this making it more simple and sensible than one designed for TVs. Automatic input and mode selection, stuff like that.

but...
that's half the fun!
