actually I hate it. I hate all driving, and Top Gear makes me so mad I could smash my TV, I put Karting (carting?)because it was just a generic stag do thing. Could have been any of the other stupid macho activities that go on, could have just as easily been paintballing. Just some activity to prevent everyone drinking too early.

Coronation Street and indeed all soap operas make me mad
and i don't watch them. Its the thought of everyone sat staring for hours, like brain damaged lab rats, at this badly written, poorly acted, predictable shit which gets my goat.

As with any bottom feeding TV programs you don't have to watch it to be irritated by it. Never watched X-factor or Big Brother either but I hate them with equal passion mainly because you always hear about them from the twats that clog up the coffee room blathering about them.

But what really REALLY makes me so mad I want to eat my own trousers in fury is people asking asinine questions on comedy message boards ;)

I of course spend my leisure time reading worthy books and learning to play the classical guitar pausing only briefly to watch an art house film on my TV or a riveting BBC4 program.

I don't want to be condescending, but...
...wouldn't you just be happier, if you guys let your anger for things that don't affect you evaporate?

I too am of the opinion that (for instance) soap operas are just endless trash, but it really doesn't concern me that people with low intellect/standards like to watch them.

Anyway, without such soaps, those people would still be watching TV (since it is the path of least resistance) but they'd be watching other trash shows. If you remove all the trash TV, you leave the uneducated mind in a vacuum; you have to give it something else to watch, or it might start trying to think for itself, with potentially disastrous consequences.

So, assuming you've gotta now provide something to placate the masses, what options do you have? Either you produce more cheap trash (putting us back in the situation we just got out of), or you have to dumb down the good stuff to make it palatable to the new audience... arguably this is a considerably worse state of affairs, because now all the TV you DID like becomes as bad as Corrie.

Think of it this way... Corrie is like Iceland... it keeps all the proles out of Waitrose.
