This is a question Tightwads

There's saving money, and there's being tight: saving money at the expense of other people, or simply for the miserly hell of it.

Tell us about measures that go beyond simple belt tightening into the realms of Mr Scrooge.

It's more of a top tip than anyting else, but it works - and at the expense of others.
If you're going out to the pub with a few mates, be the first one to the door and hold it open for everyone. You'll be the last one at the bar, and by that time, your mates will have got the drinks in.

I had a "friend" who used to do that
on his round he'd go to the toilet or go and talk to someone else.

Haven't spoken to him since he wouldn't pay half a bill we were jointly responsible for.

Best £40 I've ever spent.

First round.
I always get the first round in; it makes you look generous and willing, and by the time it comes to your turn again, people are pished, have forgotten who's tun it is and are ordering whisky chasers, all of which you can easily avoid forking out for.
