Parsnips are quite sweet.
I see parsnips as been below carrots on the periodic table of vegetables.

although I swore I would never use theadjective after I saw it used to describe Jeffrey Archer's wife...
I do think parsnips small quite 'fragrant'when peeled.

However
the French don't eat them and they are only grown as animal feed.

Actually
parsnips (panais) are currently very trendy in France. They can be bought individually wrapped in supermarkets. It's true that they used to be seen as animal feed but the perception is changing rapidly. All the celebrity chefs are using them. It's a nice opportunity for me to impress the frogs with such exotic things as roast parsnips, creamed parsnips, etc.

Nothing
They have roast beef with a nice jus, then separately a plate of vegetables. This confused the hell out of me when I visited someone for dinner and they presented me with a plate of meat and nothing else. I was too polite to ask where the rest of the food was. And of course once we'd finished she brought out the next 6 courses, each more or less 1 item.
