If giving your turbocharged car a good old ragging, when you get to your destination then let the car sit at tickover for a couple of minutes before turning the engine off. If you turn the engine straight off the glowing hot turbo (exhast gases typically over 600 degrees centigrade, remember!) will cook the oil that is sitting in the turbo bearing race making it shitty and sticky. By letting the temp get back down before stopping the oil flow you will avoid having to find £1000+ for a new turbo way ahead of its natural expiration date.

but haven't got a fucking clue what this is about.

these days try finding a diesel car without one, more and more of us are driving turbo cars and when you've got black syrup instead of hypergrade lubricating a turbine that is trying to spin up to 100,000 rpm then there's going to be problems, including clogging up the oil feed in the first place.

is when arriving at motorway service areas.
High-speed caning + immediate stop and switch-off = emulsified oil = turbo death.
Also, don't sit with your foot on the brakes at the end of the slip road when you come off a motorway junction - you'll warp the discs. The stop from 70mph+ will heat the discs up a great deal, so keeping the pads clamped to one spot for a few seconds will make that spot retain more heat than the exposed disc surface for long enough to bend it. Blue Peugeot 406 estates are particularly prone to this.
