Another toast one
Once you put the bread under the grill / into the toaster, run the plate under the hot tap for 30 seconds or so. This will heat the plate up enough to keep the toast warm otherwise the plate acts like a very efficient heatsink for your breakfast.

apply a tea towel. Or, in winter rest the plate on the radiator, though this may take longer

or just pop the plate under the grill or over the toaster for a moment?
saves running the hot tap and you'd be using otherwise wasted energy.

Simply put your toast on top of another piece of toast, thus avoiding all contact with the plate.

Apply butter to your hands while you're waiting
Then squeeze the toast between them when it's popped.
