When writing the information sheet on a medication, don't list a symptom as a side effect.
For example, a gel for the treatment of mouth ulcers should not have 'ulceration' as a side effect.

One of the possible side effects of corticosteroids is difficulty breathing. Surprisingly enough if you are asthmatic and tell the doctor that your breathing has gotten worse since you saw him last week when he prescribed the steroids because your breathing was bad, he puts you on another course of steroids despite the fact that you have told him that the breathing difficulties don't really feel like asthma (and you should know because you've had it all of your life). Lather, rinse and repeat until you decide that maybe all of these steroids you've been taking aren't doing you much good, look up possible effects of steroid overdose and go back to the doctor to tell him you think the steroids are the problem and would like to stop taking them. Be bloody glad that you knew that stopping taking such a high dose of steroids all of a sudden would probably kill you, berate yourself for wasting your time by going to the doctor, devise your own plan for weaning yourself off the steroids, consider suing the doctor for attempted negligent homicide, gain lots of weight from the prolonged course of steroids and almost die from an asthma attack which wouldn't have been half as bad if it weren't for the weight gain.
This is why I now read up on all of the possible side effects of any drug I'm taking the second my symptoms change. This helped me catch an adverse reaction to some antibiotics I was taking early enough to stop it developing into anything too serious.
