This is a question Things to do before you die

Sandettie Light Vessel Automatic tells us that his ambition is to a) drive around New Zealand in a camper van; and b) have MASSIVE sex with the original members of Bananarama. Tell us what's on your wish list, and why.

There are several people
I know that I need make sure that they check out before I do, other than that, I'd like to ride the "road of bones", on a decent dirt bike, without a support crew.
EDIT: I would also like to run the Finke Desert race, it's like a shorter but rougher version of the Baha race.

How far is this journey
It may require carrying a lot of kit if you don't have a support crew. I doubt there are many service stations en route.

I got the idea
When I saw Ewan Mcgregor doing it, but think I have heard of another guy he met while doing it who was travelling the opposite way pretty much by himself and nursing a broken ankle in a cast.
To be fair, I have no idea if he made it. The trip is quite long, but I believe there is fuel available albeit poor quality, and irregularly spaced.

Adrian Scott
It could have been an Australian guy, Adrian Scott. He did it solo. He has also write a book: The road gets better from here (you can find it on Amazon.

Enjoy

I know Claudio, their cameraman
And he said that they geninely couldn't have done it on those bikes without help at that time of the year. And he's hard as nails ex Swiss SAS-type regiment.

Truly I'd love to make that journey myself, too. East is one place I've never been on a bike. I've done the Arctic Circle, all of Europe and ridden to Africa and back. Russia is next on the list...

I find that interesting
....and please don't take this the wrong way, but in the doco, I thought that he (Claudio) came across as quite inept and nothing like the "hard as nails" type (not that I thought the others were any harder). I do enjoy riding some really hard terrain, although I have not done it with an overloaded and already overweight bike for days and weeks on end.

Claudio
I've read their book. Ewan and Charlie admitted that actually Claudio was the best rider among them in terms of choosing the right track, especially in the hard sections of Mongolia and Road of Bones. He seems so much cooler the the "heroes".

excellent idea
i met Charlie and Ewan at the ace cafe a couple of years before they did all that and because i am a film buff i knew who charlie was and his part as german pilot in hope and glory and in the emerald forest, had a good old chat about bikes and films, thoroughly nice blokes. And a few weeks back i met Charlie again at a fairground on wimbledon common and he remembered our chat (or at least he pretended he did!)
