This is a question Worst Band Ever

If I was in charge of the B3ta fatwa department, we wouldn't be hearing too much from Simply Red in the future. Who's on your musical shit list and why?

The Smiths.
A great, inventive pop guitarist, solid rhythm section brown showered over by a bloke who really should get some sunshine, red meat and that shit out of his hair wanking on about daffodills and how rubbish living in Manchester is.

An alarming number of people
have asked me if I like The Smiths. And I don't know why.

You can usually ALWAYS spot them.
Slightly too slim, vaguely effete haircut, affecting a disdain for fun stuff and pretending to be bisexual to impress girls.

you forgot the habitual sneer

'Man doesn't like the Smiths'

(, Thu 6 Jan 2011, 13:31, closed)
In all fairness, the entire question is 'I don't like..'

True, true...

I don't mind The Smiths
in much the same way that I don't mind Westlife. For some reason, this seems to be more offensive to Smiths fans than saying I loathe them.

If you say you loathe them
a Smiths fan can feel utterly superior because you're clearly a philistine. If you don't mind them then they can't really lecture you or despise you and it's all very disappointing.

They're just not really worth having an opinion on

I totally see your point here, one lot are made up of effete wankers putting out saccharine hackneyed bilge to an easily-pleased crowd of easily led teens and the others are Westlife.

I always feel let down by The Smiths
Fantastic musically, some really upbeat stuff, really rather talented. Then Morrissey starts singing and you want to kill yourself.

It's like seeing a kitten having its eyes pecked out by crows on a warm summers' day in a meadow.

Somebody once described Morrisey to me as
"The John Major of pop singers."
