The loss of poons recently has made me reflect on my weekend just gone
To put into context... the last minute planning of this happened before I'd learnt about poons.
About 2 weeks ago, I commented something on a flickr page of my sisters best friend, some constructive criticism on how to use her camera better. From this, we quickly set up a friendship ourselves. We both suffer from depression, both of us suffering some major marital issues, both of us needing a relatively neutral pair of ears to talk to.
Over many a long night, we have talked in great length about how deep our depression has taken us, and in her case about how isolated she feels by a very overbearing family. Just last week, something clicked inside of her, and the shit very quickly hit the fan. She had hit a new rock bottom, and very little was getting through to her. She was starting to descend into the dangerous spiral.
I could not cope with the thought of losing anyone else (after my wife and I separated), even though we'd been friends for little over a week. After discussing quickly with my sister, I decided that this weekend gone, I was going to drive all the way from my home in Central Scotland, to Cardiff where they live, and my sister and I would take her out of the environment she was in, even for a day, and go and enjoy ourselves.
We chose to go to the zoo, as all three of us are photo nuts, and there was no chance of getting near alcohol what-so-ever. All three of us had the best time ever, and when we dropped our friend off back home, my sister had told me that it was the happiest she'd ever seen her recently.
Now this is not a self promoting post to slap myself on the back for the "knight-in-shining-armour" act, but a simple reminder to all to remember that we SHOULD go out of our way to help our friends out, especially when they are running lower than normal. I sincerely hope that the boost we gave our friend was enough to help steer her away from the dark path, but if my friend still chooses to spiral down into the dangerous path, then at least I can say she had a blast on the way!
Even though I never knew poons, I can't help but feel like a "car-crash bystander".

I find depression a curious thing.
I have shit times and shit happens to me, do I just cope better?

But in a nutshell, yes you cope better. Have a cookie!

depends if you are vulnerable from genes or upbringing
www.hearingvoices.org.uk/images/stress.gif if you have higher vulnerability then it takes less stress to make you ill. worth bearing in mind that childhood trauma is often a factor which increases someones vulnerability if you feel like saying some people are mentally weak.
