I'd give duke nukem forever a miss

Is it shit? It looks kind of shit but I had hoped it wouldn't be shit.

Yeah, it's a bit shit.
If you enjoyed the original it might be worth picking up when it's down to £15 or less but it's not worth getting now.

Have you played it yet?
I was excited about the possibility of a good return for Duke, but all I've heard is people saying it's puerile and childish. I thought that was the point of Duke Nukem.

I'm sure the puerile childishness would have been overlooked or maybe even enjoyed
if the game itself was any good, but everything I've read seems to agree that it's really poorly made as well, considering the 14 year development time.

It's a shame
can't win 'em all though. I'll probably still pick it up when it drops below £20, and if it's that bad i won't have to wait too long.

Shitting hell, I wouldn't pay more than £10 for it, if I was going to bother with it at all.
The biggest selling point seems to be that it contains the odd pair of tits and a few cock jokes.

so it's the gaming equivalent of QOTW?

There's a few good lines in it that made me laugh.

and you can grab a shit out of a loo and throw it!

Sounds hilarious, reserve me a copy

They probably had to rewrite it from scratch every time a new platform came out.
And then rushed to finish it before the Xbox 720, PS4 or whatever is next. There's no excuse for spending that long though, considering the resources they must have been able to throw at it.

That's no excuse for using the same aliens and weapons as duke 3d

What happened was 3D Realms acted like a teenager who hadn't done their homework for about 12 years
until they all got shitcanned, then 2K and Gearbox came along and made a right fucking hash of it, which they then ported over to the Xbox, badly.

If it were released in 1998 the reviews would have said that it was an uninspiring sequel
that brought nothing new to the game.

The first ten or 15 minutes are fun, after that it starts to grind but I'm determined to finish it. There seems to be easy bits then all of a sudden a boss will drop out of the sky and kill you. Then you have to wait an entire minute for the game to reload. After a couple of attempts you'll have found an unlimited ammo crate and a place to hide and then it's a piece of piss.

It's less original than Duke 3d and while I admit it's been a fair few years since I played it DNF seems far more linear with a smaller gaming area.

I read a review that said it was really bad and quite misogynistic.
Nothing like the brilliant original fps.

Played the demo of the Manhattan Project when it was released on XBLA, turned it off after 20 minutes.
The continual recycling of a few spoken phrases every time an enemy was killed really started to grate. I think, from what I've seen of the new one, this will be much the same.

Actually the only phrase repetition I've noticed
is when I find a supply crate.

It speaks volumes though when a software house seems too scared to release a playable demo on XBLA,
insisting that potential customers satisfy themselves with a couple of not entirely representative of gameplay videos and some shoes for your avatar
