In release 1 of 1 of Pickled Onion Release Notes
In news that will make you sick to your core, it turns out that backups have been broken for the last few days.
A fix is now in place and that will tie in with the update to the database from mysql 5 to mysql 8, that's currently in development.

I keep thinking that I should keep everyone up to date with stuff that's going on with b3ta, so like an absent father I'm here with a one off interaction that makes me feel better.

For anyone who's interested, the backup failure happened when the containers that run everything here were upgraded to UBI 9.
That update gave me a load of new Grafana dashboards and alerts that tell me when the the site has fallen over.

Finally there's a new mechanism that allows me test new features as a canary deployment, meaning the current and a possible new site are shown randomly to everyone and I can monitor them both for errors.

As a bonus that's of some slight interest, if you look in your profile settings you can turn on infinite scrolling on the challenge entries page.

Next update will be a test build of the site with the PHP engine switched to a thread model which might stop some of the random outages. After that I have some random shite I want to try out.

/edit I'll also look at webp at some point

I'm backing up as I type this

(, Thu 3 Oct 2024, 23:53, archived)
I just want you to enable webp
and to introduce a system which aims to moderate certain undesirable behaviours.
(, Thu 3 Oct 2024, 23:55, archived)
Moderation is a very hard problem but I'm open to ideas
Do you mean image uploader support for webp?
(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 0:04, archived)
Yes the image matey updangler.
Moderation ideas: a report button, list of mods, visibly identifiable mods, enforcing the existing rules, perhaps updating the rules (and faq).
(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 0:30, archived)
I'm nearly sure I looked at webp before but it shouldn't be hard to add
the uploader is really just a file store so it doesn't care.

That sort of moderation is really up to Rob and not me, I'm just the hired help. Can't do nay harm to ask him.
(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 0:43, archived)
Terrible ideas.

, Trouser

(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 9:41, archived)
Then it's really odd that nearly every other forum has incorporated them, isn't it.

(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 17:14, archived)
You do you

(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 0:20, archived)
Can you get the archive working again or is that beyond help?

(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 1:24, archived)
I have looked at it recently and spotted some issues
Is it the talk archive that's the problem?
(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 9:02, archived)
I'm not sure about the other boards
but talk's archive hasn't been working for a long time.

I can look at my old posts but if I try to look at the linked threads nothing is shown.
(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 9:04, archived)
Got a link where that happens?

(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 9:29, archived)
Yep this is a very recent post from the archive
b3ta.com/talk/8423565#post8423571
(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 10:03, archived)
Is that is working now?

(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 12:14, archived)
Yes.

(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 12:23, archived)
Woah yes
thanks Sn0tters.
(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 12:32, archived)
No worries

Older posts seem to be still broken
b3ta.com/talk/8173324#post8173394 from 2018

Edit - actually it's only a couple around this time.
(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 12:43, archived)
That message had been deleted

(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 13:06, archived)
Every single link older than 7 days.

(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 10:41, archived)
Isn't that just because your old posts were so shit the entire threads had to be redacted?
I assumed that's what's happening with my shit old posts, because I'm having the same issue.
(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 9:29, archived)
That's true in your case
for mine it's just a website issue.
(, Fri 4 Oct 2024, 10:02, archived)
BITCHES!
What is this? It's too early for this! Now... kiss.
