[challenge entry] Soz for words but...
As soon as I saw the new compo I just had to do this.
My mrs has cancer. She has gone from a 9st attractive woman to a 6st old
lady who is having treatment 3 days a week for Lymphoma. She has had
three ATOS assessments the last one last week and has been found
'Fit For Work' each time. She will now automatically be put on JSA and
lose her DLA/ESA whatever they choose to call it and would have to attend
the Jobcentre five days a week from 9am to 5pm and actively look for work.
This means she would have to give up any hope of treatment to do this.
She has now told them to stick their benefits and now gets nothing.
Forgive me for the rant but we are actually going through this.
I don't know exactly how long I will have her in my life but one things for
sure I will never let her attempt to get any benefits from this evil vile
government again despite her never being off work in her entire working
life as a nurse. And the so called rumour that they have coins glued to the
floor to see if anyone trys to pick it up... Completely true. A 50p under the table.

EDIT: Great comments and support b3ta :)))))))))))

# Fuck. Really don't know what to say here, but going to say it anyway. Fuck.
What a bunch of utter, utter cunts.
You (and she) have my sympathy.

EDIT: and of course you've seen this:

# Go to all the fucking papers with this
Start with the Guardian and Daily Mail (no matter how much you hate either). Also go to your local MP. This is a complete abuse. Use the tiny amount of power you have to kick up the biggest shit-storm you possibly can.

Also I'm really sorry, if this happened to me I would be unable to cope. You have my sympathies and righteous anger.

# People in worse situations have done this.
It has been brought up at PMQ's, Amnesty International have challenged Iain Duncan-Smith over human rights issues yet it just gets worse. It seems the more noise made, the tighter the grip.

# that is vile
Similar retards in Sweden right now, the Dr Mengeles of health care and support rule the country, slaughtering public services. "Nursing people at home will give families a chance to spend quality time" stated the prime minister as a conclusion to his last term, as a comment about their official rule that nobody can be ill longer than a year and after that loses any support. It has been suggested he should get the Nobel prize in medicine for this breakthrough discovery that no illness lasts longer than a year.

# It's difficult to know what to say...
This sort of stuff happens probably on a daily basis, but it's only when you hear someone explain it, that it becomes more real (if that makes sense). I think others have said this, but I would definitely go to a paper or MP with this. The system is clearly broken and needs fixing.
People who clearly don't need help seem to get it by the bucket load with handouts etc. And then when people genuinely need help and understanding they receive a slap to the face. Stay positive and stay strong. But do speak out about this. I feel odd 'click'-ing this, but if it gets you more awareness and support, then 'click' away I will.

# So sorry to hear that.
Every single thing I've read about ATOS seems to suggest that they're heartless, brainless vampires that exist just to give people a symbolic hope that their case might be listened to, without ever providing any assistance to anyone. I saw Dennis Skinner's rant about them in Parliament as well.

# Another reluctant 'click' as it were.
Ive had the 'pleasure' of dealing with ATOS, and although not anywhere near as bad as your missus' situation, to me at the time it was every bit as important. They are a stupid bunch of fucking brain deads that Im sure just flip a coin to decide which ones get any help. They may as well have a delicatessen style number picker for everyone waiting that day and at 4 pm just decide odds or evens, that seems a better system than the current one :)

# A friend of mine's profoundly autistic 18 year old son
..is in residential care and can't even speak, never mind read or write. They know this - he has been the same all of his life and, sadly, will never improve.

ATOS have demanded he fill in an assessment form to decide whether he is eligible for benefits. His mum has ended up having to fill it in for him. All it serves to do is stir up the grief of having a child whose life is so limited.
(, Thu 24 Oct 2013, 12:06, archived)
# Both of you keep strong and fighting Captn!!
tbh I went through almost exactly the same with my missus (but hers was leuakaemia) and was actually before the ATOS criminals appeared. So even (nearly) 3 years ago, the ill, the poor and the weak were treated like shite...

# That's terrible captn
My sincere thoughts to you and yours. xx

I'm genuinely aghast at how much these soulless bastards are getting away with at the moment. At what point do we snap and say "ENOUGH!"

Now if your Mrs were a banker with her bonus under threat they'd bust their arses fighting for her.

Cunts! :(

# what an absolute bunch of twats
I cannot comprehend what you are going through and for the DWP and (don't give) Atos to do this to you and yours is unbelievable.
I would only echoe the sentiments of those who have posted before me and kick up a shit storm about this as much as is humanly possible.

# Thoughts are with you both....
I battled Atos for my missus too - thankfully she was finally put into the support group - It was a bitter and draining fight - All they do is make your existence worse than it already was - Glad you don't need them but that is not the point - As the others said just cherish every day and f**k Atos !

# Cap'n to Cap'n
This is a shitty thing to happen. Spend as much time together as you can. Let her know she's loved. You have a flair for comedy i your work. Try to laugh together, however hard that is, She is who she was, not the disease she now has.

Try to be happy.

# See whether there's an advocacy service in your area that can help you go to appeal, then tribunal
I challenge Atos decisions as part of my job and so far haven't lost a tribunal. It's really rewarding helping restore benefits to scared, stressed people who have been left at their wits end by Atos. It is possible to to get the DWP to completely back down, if you know exactly how the Atos psychology/scoring system works.

While you are waiting for your hearing, she should continue to get the benefit at the pre-assessment rate. Good luck!
