How to escape education's death valley.
Brilliant TED speech on engaging kids in education by Ken Robinson. He mentions the cost of 'fall out' and how a 'trillion will be lost to brain drain', it certainly gets ears twitching. Cleverly delivered too.

Nice counter-balance to that truly awful Gove creature.
A creative approach to learning is so much better than remembering dates that an ex-Times journalist decided are important. It also makes for a far more compassionate environment for kids to be in.
I also hate TED talks, they are well bent.

Now I listen to these sorts of clips quite often. Like, I put one on the background when I'm working on the computer and it really helps me to concentrate.
No sorts of visual stuff works for me, just sounds. Think some of these videos can seem pretty creepy just because of the huge range of different things that work for different people.

I've no intention of jumping off Beachy Head for a long time
but I don't see why people have such a problem with others choosing to do it.
It's their choice, their lives, why should other people be bothered?
As long as they aren't leaving dependants behind or massive debts that will affect other people.

Probably the same reason why we lock people up against their will for mental health issues.
As a society we try to protect others despite themselves.
I'm going to sound like a cold hearted bastard here but I'm all for assisted suicide like the swiss model.
Where there is no hope of improvement and the person is sound of mind.
Medical care is expensive and there's a limite pot of money.
Why force it on those that would rather die?

Couldn't agree more.
I'm not old but have had numerous cancers removed from me, and got 3 more 'possible' tumours being examined/biopsyed on the 18th, if these are found to be bad shit then I cant be arsed with it any more. I'm doing the swiss thing. Doing it when I choose to, with all my family informed and aware of it, all affairs in order, painless and able to have a deadline so I can enjoy my life. Its so much cheaper going there to do this than the NHS would have to spend to 'possibly' extend my life for a bit to have the same end result. Its madness, it should be available over here, hospices should offer it rather than on an industrial estate in a foreign country.
*edit* but people that jump off bridges onto motorways or in front of trains at rush hour can just get to fuck.

And it shouldnt have to mean physical pain either, it can be the feeling of knowing you're going to die, from an incurable disease. Imagine having that hanging over you? Now imagine you have a bloke that says 'right, you've got 6 weeks and then its all over' imagine how much happier you'd be.

Cars on the road Compilation June 2013
And by 'the road' I do of course mean Russia. And not so much on the road, as off it.
Very, very tame by Russian dashcam standards. Basically little bumps and doubt anyone was hurt in any of them even a little bit. The cyclist at 3 minutes was very LOLworthy and may amuse some on here.

Thanks, I appreciate it - and the conversation was very interesting
I saw a Fine Art video in a gallery of a horse in the middle of being shot that was basically a Time-Slice, can't remember if it was before or after Matrix though.

I suppose it depends whether people are looking at the image, or thinking about the process behind it.
I'd rather watch this that the Matrix any day. And I hate DVD commentaries where they go on about "Ooh, that a CGI bottle flying across the room, that's a pick-up shot of the hand etc."

I've found myself saying "a to-do" a lot recently, it's very satisfying,
same with "harouche"(sp.?) and "phew Rory".

Sorry, but is the link for the Sun's website?
It's the thought of giving money to Murdoch that upsets my tummy more than any tattooed bodyparts.

Google BBC News and the Sun is second answer
Strange.
I'm no fan of Murdoch, who is.
What was I thinking of.
Also. No matter how appealing they look, don't feed the seagulls.

Jason Friedberg & Aaron Seltzer
Who keeps green-lighting their movies? They must have a good ROI. Scary Movie and Spy Hard were okay, but they were written with others.

Old video games are terrifying
If you're a gamer over the
age of 40, two things:
1. What the hell are you doing with your life?!?! Open the curtains, rub your eyes and get out into the world!
2. If you have kids, and have completely disregarded the point above, you must learn this whole thing, start to finish, you must practice it in the mirror, making sure you get all the terrible emphasis correct, because sooner or later, some little brat will say this exact thing, and you'll be ready.

Chladni Plate Experiment.
Basically making shapes from sand on a plate using frequencies, quite stunning.
The patterns get more intricate as it goes on but you may want to watch on mute, the music is pretty annoying.

I like the way they've linked to a mental video from Iran underneath it and typed "see the difference", what? Yeah, the parallels between that crossroads in Canada and Iran are well known, i wish people would stop banging on about them.
Still, well played to that kid, good on him.

I hope the traffic lights have failed, as you say
Otherwise this video is a bit worrying
