Cheers for that garlic advice. Cleaned my aphids up in a couple of days. Fortunately I caught it early.
Weird thing is there's an investation I can do very little about on a sycamore which is next to a grape vine. Vines being notorioously susceptable to aphids but it's never effected.

Re the trees, I have two Chestnut trees in my garden, and I know that they are the source of a lot of the nasties I find elsewhere causing trouble.

I got a shot class, put about a tablespoon of garlic granules in it and filled it up with white wine, I then left it for 12 hours, poured the contents into a small spray bottle (about half a litre) and filled with water.
Then after giving the plant a good spray a couple of times a day for a couple of days they all died off.

Unforunately when I had the problem, from a store bought strawberry plant, the ladybirds had died off and the larvae unhatched.
EDIT: I think when I bought them a couple of years ago I got them from that site. THe only trouble is someone press ctrl I near them and they came out black with red spots.
