*edit* Do you ever have any of those moments where you should have checked whether Barbarossa has bindunned it already just before posting?

or that USA were really quite good?
(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 10:23, archived)
# England were really quite bad
Rooney was ineffective.
Lampard hardly there.
Lennon. Rubbish.
Heskey. Slow and lumbering.
Cole hardly ever came forward.
(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 10:26, archived)
# you can't say Rooney was marked out of the game
it just looked like he'd come back from a 10 mile run, and really just couldn't be arsed joining in.

I though Glen whatsisface (bloke with braids) played a good game - Beckham was superb!

# Bit of both
They defended really well, as I told someone on Friday they would, and they openly laughed in my face.

(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 10:20, archived)
# ^this^
I don't blame him for picking Green.

Heskey and Milner/SWP rather than Cole however is a different matter

Thiong is Prodge, even people who hate football are goalkeeper experts today

# to be fair to Rob Green (hadn't heard of him until Saturday)
the only thing he did wrong was to smear his gloves with grease...

# I am blaming him....
for picking fucking Heskey. He's a prick.

I don't blame Green for England not winning, the outfield players in my opinion were mostly ineffective. It's odd, I appear to have watched a totally different game to the commentators and the ITV pundits.

EDIT: having said that, it was really quite a bad mistake to make, but at least he's made it in the first game and not in a quarter final, say.

# they passed it around nicely a bit
but nobody wanted to score - pass pass pass - er ineffectually loft it wide?
(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 10:26, archived)
# *edit*
as a former goalkeeper myself - I'd have jumped on the bastard ball ad smothered it just to make sure - not attempt some text book cricket fielding
(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 10:27, archived)
# You've got to get your body behind it. That's basic.
(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 10:29, archived)
# not being told you're playing until an hour before
isn't enough time to get mentally ready for a world cup game.

(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 10:34, archived)
# They think by passing it around the back they're playing like Brazil
But when Brazil do it you can see it's with a purpose, to unlock the defence.

When England do it it's because they can't think of anything else to do.
(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 10:28, archived)
# exactly
the Aussies had a good pass around last night - but had no one up front really
(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 10:31, archived)
# It's bizarre
everyone seems to be praising Heskey because he set up gerrard's goal.

We'll just forget his ineptitude cost us the match as well, cos it's easier to blame a horrible mistake, Rather than consistent ineptness
(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 10:26, archived)
# you all know where I stand when it comes to the england team...

but for fuck sake if it wasn't for green it would have been 2-1 not 1-1.

yer defence was piss poor
(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 10:27, archived)
# this
a good block in the second half - although the woodwork helped somewhat
(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 10:30, archived)
# Yeah, I thought that was pretty lucky, actually.
(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 10:32, archived)
# Yeah, instead of focusing on the negative of the keeper for letting one in,
we should focus on the positive of that upright bit of pipe keeping one out.
(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 10:40, archived)
# not all that good
he VERY nearly got beaten at his near post. I thought his position was poor and he just redeemed it.

He's a nice bloke, probably the only player in the starting XI who isn't a total tool, but that was a pisspoor display.

Prodge, your right about the defence being shite, but you could equally apply that to most of the rest of them...Lampard, tick; SWP, tick; Milner, why did he even start; Capello, poor decisions re King and Milner; etc etc
(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 11:00, archived)
# I think James is the better keeper
The manager should let his keepers know who's going to wear the No.1 long before kickoff but Green didn't know until an hour before the game and in my books that's not good for a Goalie.
(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 11:08, archived)
# Mebbe
Basic problem: all our keepers are average. Any of them could have made that mistake and it wouldn't have been a massive surprise to me. Tim Howard would walk into that team and I don't even rate him that highly.

# capello is a great manager.
he treats them like children, they deserve no less
(, Mon 14 Jun 2010, 10:38, archived)
# I thought he was sponsored by Durex
