excellent as ever! The Murdoch empire's capacity for myopia on stories that they don't like is incredible..

and have witnessed this "woman throwing a cat into a bin" story from afar.. Makes you realise what a petty lynch mob mentality we have in this country.

The world will always be full of needlessly violent, ignorant morons, and we should humiliate them for our own entertainment.

that in humiliating and insulting these fucktards, you join their ranks. The solution is to ignore them, and they will go away.

The woman who threw the cat in the bin didn't give a toss about the poor cat and the 15 hours of hell it went through, but of course the public backlash was more so because of the media hype, however if nothing had come of it she would have gone around thinking it's perfect normal behaviour to treat animals in such a way.
I don't feel in the least bit sympathetic towards her but that's not to justify the media circus that it became.

it's just when the death threats start, you realise how utterly retarded a large proportion of the population are.

In reality a lot of people dislike this woman, but would merely give her a wide birth, a sore look or maybe the withering 'tut' of disgust. Death threats on the internet are 2 a penny yet we don;t live in a society were people are horrifically murdered because 4chan doesn't like them.

Down With Fanatics!
If I had my way with violent men
I'd simmer them in oil,
I'd fill a pot with bitumen
And bring them to the boil.
I execrate the terrorist
And those who harbour him,
And if I weren't a moralist
I'd tear them limb from limb.
Fanatics are an evil breed
Whom decent men should shun;
I'd like to flog them till they bleed,
Yes, every mother's son,
I'd like to tie them to a board
And let them taste the cat,
While giving praise, oh thank the Lord,
That I am not like that.
For we should love the human kind,
As Jesus taught us to,
And those who don't should be struck blind
And beaten black and blue;
I'd like to roast them in a grill
And listen to them shriek,
Then break them on the wheel until
They turned the other cheek.

As similar thinking was used to justify the Crusades, the Holocaust, etc etc etc. That said, there is some truth to it, but far too many people believe that 'justice' and 'vengence' are synonymous.

otherwise it's a wake up call for those who sit on their arse and celebrate just how liberal they are whilst Nazis and such round up people who are deemed as subversive. I always recall this quote:
in it's original German and then in English:
Als die Nazis die Kommunisten holten,
habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Kommunist.
Als sie die Sozialdemokraten einsperrten,
habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Sozialdemokrat.
Als sie die Gewerkschafter holten,
habe ich nicht protestiert;
ich war ja kein Gewerkschafter.
Als sie die Juden holten,
habe ich geschwiegen;
ich war ja kein Jude.
Als sie mich holten,
gab es keinen mehr, der protestierte.
When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn't a Jew.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

As for the quote, I've always been skeptical of the idea that people should help others because if they don't then noone will be around/able/bothered to help them. It's an intrinsically selfish view of morality (much like, to digress, most people's idea of 'karma' viz. "I should do something good so that good things happen to me").
People should not be opressed by fanatics, but a call to arms doesn't solve any problems.

and if you do nothing until it's too late then, it's just too late.
Your quotes are about not letting the fanatics rule (mob rule in your first example) then you turn that from mob rule to dictatorial rule from an oppressive regime, so what you are saying is that they are the same. In fact what you are saying is that we should oppress mob rule, but that would require a force equal to it, a dictatorial regime if you will!
It's not I that's advocating any form of dictatorship, but we can not afford to wait until it happens before doing anything else it's too late.
The Nazis were allowed to rise to power under the banner of democracy, but all the time stating they would remove democracy should they gain power as Germany needed a strong leadership that wasn't watered down by democracy.
You start by saying we shouldn't allow the mob to rule, then you say we should do nothing about it else we become the dictators. We won't become the dictators we will only become cannon-fodder of the dictators if we do nothing.
Unfortunately Freedom of Speech is not a free gift to the liberal of mind, it has to be constantly fought for in both words and actions.

there ought to be a chart for 'Comparative Bastardry', updated daily, so we know who is worse out of Cat Bin Woman and Tony Blair (for example)
