i use the technique of copying all but the first and last frame, then paste them after the last frame and reverse them, but if i need to keep the frame amount low i'll try and to just delete frames until it loops.

Slide them to the end and reverse the moved ones only.
And as in yours, trim beginning or ends to suit tastes.

I did this with no 'real' drum beat in mind, but created a MIDI file doing exactly what the rabbit is playing. It sucked, so I redid the rabbit moves to match a standard drum beat. The audio and visual were great together. Alas, I lost my only copy of that.
