I'm a bit bored of LA Noire leading me by the hand, and fancied something new

got half way through and gave up.
not enough to do outside of the main mission and the main missions were, as you say, just being lead by the hand

The wife enjoyed watching me play it, got genuinely involved.
But like Real said, there's little to do outside the missions, which you have to do in order.
It may be a step forward in design (though it takes about three missions to work out how to tell if someone's lying), but gameplay wise it's a massive step back

Utterly bland
Oh great, I get to search for more clues. Oh joy. I get to guess what some Jessica Rabit type cunt is thinking. After a couple of hours I put GTA on and shot some poor innocent in the head, it cheered me right up

I recently went back and finally 'finished' GTA IV
I'd forgotten how good it was

if i wanted to watch a movie ill watch a movie. the game is just about the characters (who are pretty cool I admit) and their dialogs and the story so its: talk to person A and drive from A to B and talk to person B and then shoot person B. thats gta IV in a nutshell PLUS shit radio stations (while they used to be so good in liberty city. shock fm with raine wusselmeyer or whatever her name is was the best station. crazy perverted kraut)

I was trying not to expect GTA:LA 1942 so it didn't really bother me that it was a linear sort of game and I enjoyed it thoroughly.
But as the driving about felt so similar to GTA I did find myself crashing into some idiot who pulled out in front of me and wishing I could get out and machine gun their car to death.
