# ok then....
You made them, you name them

# awwww

# Sorry. Upon reflection,
I think, with Purritos, you might just have the edge.

# aww Horse Herpes!
I mean 'cheers!'

# Aww, poor Long-tailed Tit.
I miss those.

# I saw some t'other day - quite a rarity round here
plenty of Goldfinches and Greenfinches though

# Aw, nice.
I saw emus the other week, real wild ones, too:

# ooh proper nice
I saw a Golden Oriole in India in March - the guide was going mental

# I've only ever heard them.
Apparently the best time to see one is during nesting season. If a crow overflies the nest, they're like a black-and-yellow surface-to-air missle, streaking almost vertically to have a go.

# "the first lifers were quick in arriving..."
birds resurrect themselves? Well you learn something new everyday :P
(, Wed 22 Jun 2011, 13:16, archived)
# Ah, the terminology...
A 'lifer' is the first time you've seen a species; a 'tick' is an entry on a list, be it year, life or trip list (as well as an arachnid that tends to appear on you when birding in rainforests a lot, the feckers); 'twitching' is running off to look at a bird someone else has reported. I could go on, but it's dull, even to birders.

# lol
Ooooooooooh I assumed it was a typo on first lighters;

I stand corrected and more informed :)

# no wonder it looks sad
it's name is a rather dandy sounding insult.

# i love the small birds that come into the garden, sparrows, tits etc
but i hate starlings, they fight and screech too much, but i still can't resist trying to help the odd young one that falls from the nest.
(, Wed 22 Jun 2011, 12:49, archived)
# Starlings have their place.
Unfortunately, over here they shouldn't and they're bloody everywhere, along with Common Mynas.
(, Wed 22 Jun 2011, 12:52, archived)
# where's over here?
i've never seen a myna, they look a tad fierce.
(, Wed 22 Jun 2011, 12:58, archived)
# Probably one of the most common birds in the Sydney area.
Have a picture: www.tonykeenebirds.co.uk/abirds/commonmyna.html

Often known as Indian Mynahs (optional 'h').
(, Wed 22 Jun 2011, 13:06, archived)
# No mynahs,
but we do have a couple of hoopoes
that poke aroud in our lawn. Never fail to amuse.
(, Wed 22 Jun 2011, 13:03, archived)
# Wha-?
Hoopoes? Faaaahhhhk, those are the best birds ever. I nearly soiled myself with glee when I saw one. The chap I was birding with and I nealry fell off of our bikes when we saw it and though he'd seen dozens of them in his life, he was jabbering and pointing as much as I was.

# :(
(, Wed 22 Jun 2011, 13:13, archived)
# no, it's ok!
his clever ruse helped him to get his way :)
